Yesterday we took a walk from the door of the cottage we welcome guests to in our local town of Dolgellau.

We hiked into the foothills of Cader Idris, following ancient footpaths past historic houses, farms and ruins. Of course we finished with a cold pint at The Torrent pub outside in the sunshine🍻

With its handsome old stone buildings and unique independent shops, pubs and cafes, Dolgellau (pronounced roughly Dol-geth-lie) is traditional, friendly and much quieter than local seaside resorts like Barmouth and Aberdyfi.

The Cader Idris mountain range forms the backdrop to the main square. The scenery and hiking nearby is really something special. You’ll hear the Welsh language being spoken in shops and cafes and a get a real sense of history here. The pace is leisurely and people are welcoming. Dolgellau is a fabulous base if you’re looking for a Wales hiking holiday while enjoying some fine food and drink.

You can book a stay in our holiday cottage right in the heart of Dolgellau.

A rare gap just opened up on one of our panorama pitches and in a shepherd’s hut, thanks to a late cancellation this weekend.

If you’ve been waiting for a sign to sneak off to the mountains of North Wales, this is it.

Barmouth is partying on the beach for Barmouth Fest on Friday 8 May and Saturday 9th, with bands, DJs and a firework finale. Tickets are £15. Over in Dolgellau on Saturday it is Carnival Day, with a free community procession, fun fair and food stalls.

Our tent camping fields are now open too, so you can pick how you want to stay and wake up to mountain views.
