Autumn is definitely here! We’ve had another great summer at The Old Forge Shepherds Hut - lots of lovely guests from all over the UK and some from much farther afield. But just because summer is behind us, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a stay with us. The hut is open all year round and the log burner ensures you are nice and toasty whatever the weather is like outside!

Check out our 5* reviews and book yourself a cosy few days on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors. You can even hitch a ride on the Flying Scotsman or Locomotive No1 as they spend some time on the North Yorks Moors Railway. See you soon!!

No Swimming for Elvis during his morning walk at Sinnington. We’re still in drought conditions here in North Yorkshire and have seen a catastrophic moor fire which has burnt for the last week on Langdale Moor. The town is busy at the moment and the hut is fully booked, with people enjoying the good weather and the beautiful walks out of the town and further afield. Always take note of fire risk signs and make sure you exercise extreme caution during extended dry spells. You must also ensure you keep properly hydrated, and we highly recommend The Sun Inn, Pickering for this important purpose.

Plenty of dates available in September and October - we are open all year!! Whatever the weather!

Summer is here at The Old Forge Shepherd’s Hut in the heart of Pickering. The huts own private garden is a real sun trap and a great place to spend some time winding down after a long day exploring everything the local area has to offer.

We’re back open and welcoming guests for 2025. Your own private space on our beautiful 18th Century property in the heart of Pickering. The hand-built Shepherd’s Hut is located in your own private, walled garden. Fitted out with everything you need for your stay with us including a wood burning stove, TV, kitchen area, bathroom with shower and WiFi. We are only 5 minutes from the centre of Pickering with its array of cafes and restaurants, pubs and bars and small boutique shops….and not forgetting the North Yorks Moors Railway. If you’re lucky you might even see the Northern Lights!!

Final guests of 2024 this weekend. It’s hard to imagine that this time last year this was just an empty space. We’ve achieved a great deal in the last year and it’s been hard work, but we’ve been blessed with some amazing guests and our little hut has proven to be a real winner; seeing us achieve 5* ratings for every stay, Guest Favourite status on Airbnb plus being awarded Superhost status too.

Our books are open for next year and we are accepting bookings either through Airbnb or direct through this page. Returning guests will receive a special deal and we are able to offer discounts on stays of 5 days or more.

Let's celebrate how we got where we have!!

The hut was hand-built by Gary over 5 months using local companies for materials. The chassis and roof came from Harrogate Huts and required some pretty impressive reversing to get it into our yard! All the timber for the build came from Rob at Ryedale Timber. Windows were handmade (and hand delivered!) by Leeds Forest Windows Ltd. Top companies selling great products...
