There are plenty of beautiful walks to take in, and views of the lochan are everywhere. The Castle accommodation comprises of 20 individually designed bedrooms, all with their own bathrooms. We have a range of of Single, Double, Twin bedded rooms, and two Suites, and for the truly romantic..The Treehouse Suite. Additional Facilities include:

Ancient London Plane trees in the woods
The London Plane trees at Fernie Castle have been there for 900 years while the oldest trees in London is 363 years old.
In Greek mythology, the plane tree is associated with the goddess Hera. In China, it is a symbol of balance and tranquility, while in Japan it is used in the art of bonsai and is believed to be able to bring good luck. The plane tree is also used for divination, and according to some traditions, if planted near a house, it can protect the occupants from evil spirits.
The plane tree is also believed to have the healing power towards depression. In a famous story, a man suffering from depression went to live in the forest, where he met a plane tree spirit who freed him from the infliction and taught him the importance of living in balance with nature. The plane tree is thus a powerful symbol of healing and balance.

Encountering with animals near the tree house is a blessing. The timid little ones sometimes will come to ask for food, with red squirrels being the most common, and the occasional deers and cranes. When you see them, please give them a treat for Fernie!

The Green Lady

The Green Lady is tied to a girl who ran to the castle in an effort to escape from her enraged father. Stories say that she was in love with a man her father did not approve of. Her father caught up with her at Fernie Castle where she later fell to her demise down three storeys from the small room at the top of the west tower where she was hidden.
Guests report seeing a young woman, wearing a green dress, with a sad expression, who stands looking at them before disappearing. She continues to appear in the rooms in the tower and has been reported as recently as a few years ago.
