On the outskirts of Killin, a bridge leads across the River Dochart to the ruins of Finlarig Castle, the former stronghold of Sir Duncan Campbell.

At the foot of the castle tower is a deep rectangular pit, that looks like an oversized grave.

Legend has it that the Campbell lairds of Finlarig watched from their castle windows as their after-dinner entertainment unfolded at what became known as the ‘Beheading Pit’.

Happy World Outlander Day! 🏴✨

Today we’re celebrating the series that captured hearts around the world and shone a spotlight on the romance, history and breathtaking beauty of Scotland.

While Claire and Jamie’s story may be fiction, many of the iconic filming locations are very real – and some of the most spectacular can be found right here in Central Scotland. From ancient castles and dramatic Highland landscapes to historic villages steeped in character, it’s easy to see why Scotland became such an unforgettable part of the Outlander story.

Whether you're a lifelong fan or simply love exploring Scotland’s rich history, there’s something magical about standing in the places that helped bring the world of Outlander to life.

Have you visited any Outlander filming locations? Tell us your favourite below! ⬇️

Imagine this; A little stone cottage in a picturesque Scottish village. Lots of artisan stores, local food ahops with all the essentials (plus treats!). Long slow along the River Earn, spending time together next to a fireplace, listening to the birds with a glass of wine as the sun sets over your stunning cottage garden.

Not a resort person. Not a cruise person. But I do love standing and staring at ancient bricks. 🏰 Anyone with me on this?

ON THE JETTY - MORTLACH 16 YO DISTILLERS DRAM.

Mortlach 16 Distillers Dram, captured on the edge of Loch Earn on the private jetty, a perfect spot for an evening dram.

Known as ‘the Beast of Dufftown’, Mortlach is distilled 2.81 times in a complicated process referred to simply as ‘The Way’.

This single malt, dubbed the ‘Distiller’s Dram’ is inspired by the rewarding first bottling of the 16-year-old released in 1992. Matured in European oak sherry casks, the whisky is bottled at 43.4% abv.

Nose: Bold, Complex, Rich and spicy.
Palate: Intensely rich, hints of clove, nutmeg, dark berries and earthy spices.
Finish: Light, Lingering, surprisingly sweet yet dry.

A winner of multiple award including:
- Double Gold — San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2023
- Silver — Bartenders Brand Awards 2022
- Double Gold — San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2021
