Father's Day next Sunday. If he says he doesn't want anything, he probably just means he doesn't want a fuss. A few days here tends to go down better than most gifts. Short-break dates still available.

Happy Father's Day to everyone doing their best out there.

Gatehouse of Fleet has just been named one of 7 UK towns where time stands still — alongside Stirling, Wells and Wareham.

The article picks up on the Clock Tower, the Murray Arms, the Mill on the Fleet, and the history behind the town’s name. Worth a read if you haven’t been for a while, or if you’re still deciding when to come.

The lodges are two miles outside town, with a walk in through Cally Woods straight from the door

A lot of our guests tell us finding somewhere their dog is genuinely welcome — not just tolerated — is half the battle. Ocean Drive , Millers Hill and Silver Birch have Cally Woods right on the doorstep. No faff, no guilt. Just a good holiday for everyone.

All sounds lovely!

Well worth a trip down there

The Rhins of Galloway peninsula remains an unspoiled paradise for visitors on the lookout for peace and tranquility.

The Rhins is a hammerhead projecting into the Irish Sea. At the north of the Rhins is Corsewall and Milleur Points and in the south is the Mull of Galloway (the southernmost point of Scotland).

The Rhins is connected to the rest of Wigtownshire by an isthmus and from north to south the peninsula measures 28 miles (45 kilometres).

The Mull of Galloway has one of the last remaining sections of natural coastal habitat on the Galloway coast and here you will find a wide variety of plant and animal species. It is now a nature reserve managed by RSPB Dumfries and Galloway. Mull means rounded headland or promontory.

The Mull of Galloway Lighthouse is open to the public annually from April to the end of October.
Visitors can climb to the lantern room at the top of the tower & visit the exhibition of lighthouse history and the quarterdeck displays at the base of the tower.

The lighthouse is operational and is owned and operated by Northern Lighthouse Board.

At the Mull of Galloway there’s also an rspb visitor centre and Gallie Craig coffee house.

The Lightkeeper’s cottages are holiday cottages which are open all year round Lighthouse Holiday Cottages at the Mull of Galloway.

Find out more https://mull-of-galloway.co.uk/

At Corsewall Point there’s another operational lighthouse and a hotel and restaurant. https://www.nlb.org.uk/lighthouses/corsewall/

The Rhins coastline is spectacular with miles of rocky shores and sandy beaches.
Port Logan and Sandhead are two of the long stretches of sandy beaches which are highly recommended.
Visit the pretty village of Portpatrick with its fabulous sea views, harbour, shops and restaurants.

Come along and explore!

My dad decided the BBQ was blocking the view in Cairn D**e.

I told him it couldn’t be moved.

He called Joe. Joe called Bruce. Bruce brought the digger.

It can be moved.

The view from Cairn D**e is now exactly as it should be.
