The sun is setting over Loch Indaal. I didn't think it was bright enough so I got the window cleaning robot to give it a polish. 🤣

You can no longer buy peat on Islay to burn for environmental and wildlife management reasons.
Traditional small scale cutting on peat banks is still allowed for those families who have had a peat bank in their family for years. So you can still come across the sweet smell of burning peat if you walk around the towns on a cold day; or when Port Ellen maltings is drying a batch of barley for the distilleries. The whisky industry is allowed to use it so you will still get that distinct smoky taste associated with Islay whisky.
