The famous Glaslyn osprey, Aran, is back!

After a disappointing year in 2025—where he returned late, ended up vying for the affection of his usual mate Elen, and eventually decamped elsewhere while Elen paired up with another male—things are looking up for 2026.

If you're in the area, do take a moment to visit the Glaslyn Osprey Centre (it’s well sign-posted). Entry is free and the volunteers are fabulously well-informed.

We sometimes make a half-day of it by going on to Plas Brondanw, which was the home of Portmeirion’s creator, Clough Williams-Ellis.

Also in the area is the ruined slate mill near Prenteg —that’s a free one, too! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🦅

We love this place. It's perfect for families, self guided, not overly 'trappy' if you don't like enclosed spaces, full of history and dog friendly. There's a cafe with great views too!

The childrens farm just below it is clean with lots of animals to see too!

Llanfair Slate Caverns are now open for the 2026 season.
Step into the history of this remarkable underground attraction, discover the story of local slate mining, and enjoy a unique day out for all ages in the heart of Eryri.

Opening hours are 10am–5pm, 7 days a week, with the café open from Saturday 28th — perfect for relaxing after your visit.

A fascinating attraction, rich heritage, and stunning surroundings make Llanfair Slate Caverns well worth a visit this season.
