Autumn might just be one of our favourite times of year in South Devon. Quieter beaches, golden woodland walks, cosy pubs and those crisp, sunny days that make you want to get out and explore.

Here are a few of our favourite ways to spend the season! 🍁

Where to go: From colourful harbour towns to little seaside villages, there’s so much to explore around the South Hams this time of year.

☕️ Wander the streets of Salcombe and stop for a coffee
🌊 Take the sea tractor across to Burgh Island
⛵️ Explore Dartmouth’s waterfront and independent shops
🌿 Take a wander along the River Yealm in Newton Ferrers and Noss Mayo. Be sure to check out The Green Deli!

Things to do: A few ideas for making the most of autumn in South Devon 🎃

🍂 Pick your own pumpkin at Pips Pick Your Own in Yealmpton or visit Pennywell Farm Pumpkin Festival near Buckfastleigh. Further afield, there is also Strawberry Fields Farm at Lifton.
🚲 Get out on two wheels at Plymbridge Woods and enjoy the changing colours of the woodland.
🍜 Browse the stalls at Totnes Market or head to Royal William Yard’s Good Food & Craft Market for local produce and something tasty.
🎆 Wrap up warm and enjoy the Bonfire Night celebrations and fireworks at Plymouth Hoe.

Where to eat: Nothing beats warming up somewhere cosy after a walk, especially when there’s a fire crackling away.

The School House Devon at Mothecombe is a lovely spot to stop for something to eat, particularly after a stroll along the beach.

A little look at what’s happening in our skies tonight 🌅✨

Here in South Devon, we’re in one of the best spots in the UK to see tonight’s partial solar eclipse, with around 95% of the Sun expected to be covered at its peak. The eclipse reaches its maximum at around 7.15pm, so keep your eyes on the skies!

And as if that wasn’t enough, Plymouth Hoe will be lighting up tonight as the British Firework Championships return for two spectacular evenings. Here’s a little throwback to last year’s display!

Due to a cancellation, this lovely two bedroom cottage is now available Saturday 8th – Saturday 15th August.

Tucked away in the peaceful Avon Valley, Gooseneck is the perfect spot for a last-minute escape to South Devon. Bigbury on Sea beach and the iconic Burgh Island are just a few minutes drive away, while the Avon estuary is right on the doorstep.

With a bright open-plan living space, cosy wood burner, two bedrooms and a lovely south-west facing garden surrounded by countryside, it’s a gorgeous place to slow down and enjoy a week by the coast.
