🌞 September arrives on Mull like a warm smile — bright mornings, unfortunatly not this morning but due to dry up by mid day
golden hills, and wildlife that seems just as delighted as we are to have a little more space again.

Hello September — the month of soft sunshine, quiet roads, and the island at its most peaceful.
Mull is buzzing gently with life right now:
Red deer beginning to stir for the rut, their calls echoing across the glens.Otters playing along the shores, teaching their cubs to fish.Eagles soaring low over the lochs in the warm autumn air.Seal pups appearing on quiet beaches.Heather in full purple bloom across the hills.And with summer crowds drifting away, Mull feels wonderfully calm — perfect for slow exploring, sea swims, and those long golden evenings that September does best🌅🌄

🍇 Blackberries on Mull — From Flower to FeastIf you’re out wandering the lanes, woodland edges, or even just around Salen this week, you’ll notice the blackberry bushes are in full story‑telling mode.
From soft white flowers to tiny green beads, then ruby-red clusters, and finally those deep purple-black berries — the whole cycle is happening right now.
🌿 The Journey of a Blackberry
Blossom stage — White petals appear first, inviting bees and setting the stage for fruit.Green berries — Tiny, hard, and bright — these are the earliest signs of what’s to come.
Red berries — Not quite ready yet, but full of promise.
Deep black berries — Soft, shiny, and they come away from the stem with the gentlest pull. That’s your perfect picking moment.
🍃 A Few Tips for Foragers
Only pick berries that lift off easily — if they resist, they’re not ready.
Leave plenty for wildlife; the birds and small mammals rely on these hedgerow feasts.Watch for thorns — blackberry bushes are generous with fruit but fierce with their stems.

The sky is blue the breeze is light and it feels warm ( well in the 20s) warm for mull. if you fancy a short stay or a week away before the nights close in now is your chance. But if this weekend is too close to prepare don't worry we stay open over winter so if dark nights and stary skys are your choice check the comments for our Web site.

If you’ve ever stood beside a Buddleia on Mull or infact anywhere in August,
you’ll know it’s not just a bush —
it’s a wildlife café, buzzing, fluttering, chirping with life.The flower spikes drip with nectar,
and every creature with a sweet tooth seems to know it.
🦋 ButterfliesThe Buddleia is famous for its butterfly crowds:Red admirals Peacocks Small tortoiseshells Painted ladies Meadow browns They come in like drifting petals,
settling on the blooms as if they’ve found their favourite pub.
🐝 Bees & Hoverflies Every spike hums with:Honeybees Bumblebees HoverfliesTiny engines of summer,

A soft autumn hush has settled over Mull,that gentle shift where the air feels cooler on the skin, the light leans golden and the nights dark again, and the island exhales after the rush of summer. Yet out in the hedgerows today, nature is still busy, still building, still offering its quiet abundance.Fresh green shoots pushing on.
Wildflowers holding their colour.
And the brambles — oh, the brambles — heavy with promise.
Clusters of berries still hard and green, others blushing red, and some already turning that deep, glossy black that means stained fingers and sweet rewards. It’s that beautiful in‑between moment: autumn whispering in the leaves, but the hedges still humming with life.
A reminder that even as the seasons turn, nature doesn’t stop — it simply shifts, grows, ripens, and carries on.Perfect days for slow walks, for noticing the small things, for gathering what the island still offers so generously.
