Introducing … Fossoway Folk. 🎻❤️

We’ve been sitting on this one for a little while, and we’re very excited to finally tell you about it.

On Sunday 14th February 2027, Michael McGoldrick, John McCusker & John Doyle will take to the stage at Crook of Devon Village Hall for the very first night of their 2027 tour.

And, rather wonderfully, it will also be the very first official Fossoway Folk gig … if you know your folk music, you’ll know quite what a coup this is.

Michael, John & John are three of the most respected and influential musicians in contemporary folk music … extraordinary players whose individual careers have taken them around the world and seen them collaborate with some of the biggest names in music.

Together, though, there’s something particularly special, three old friends, decades of shared musical history and that wonderful, instinctive chemistry that comes from knowing each other, and each other’s playing, inside out.

AND they’re starting their 2027 tour here … in our wee village hall … just down the road from Fossoway Stables. 🤍

This is exactly what we hope Fossoway Folk can be … brilliant live music, intimate rooms, a warm welcome and the chance to experience truly exceptional musicians right here in our little corner of Perthshire.

So, this feels like a pretty special way to begin.

I reckon September feels like the month when everything starts to tuck itself in a little … do you know what I mean?

The horses have their first rugs on, their feeds are getting bigger, the market garden has slowed just enough to let us catch our breath, and we’re edging ever closer to the final grass cut of the year (which I am VERY ready for).

Meanwhile, slightly confusingly, my own brain seems to be speeding up.

I’m planning Christmas, making my annual list of everything I’d like wrapped up before the end of the year, and already starting to think about 2027 … apparently while nature winds down, I make lists … LOTS of them!

September has also brought veg box deliveries and podcast listening, golf trophies, lovely meals, evenings in Edinburgh and Glasgow, Mum and Dad’s anniversary celebrations and plenty of those ordinary moments in between that actually make up most of life.

And today? I’m writing from bed while the rain absolutely pours down outside, catching up on admin and feeling very happy indeed to be tucked up indoors 😊

This month’s Karen’s Corner is really about the seasonal shift … somewhere between doing and resting, finishing and planning, still growing but beginning to draw things a little closer to home.

This week from the Fossoway Kitchen 🧑‍🍳 … Harvest Stuffed Peppers 🫑

We’re right at that lovely point in the year where the garden is still giving us plenty of colour, but our cooking is beginning to turn towards something a little warmer and more comforting.

These peppers are filled generously with tomatoes, courgette, lentils and herbs, topped with (optional) crumbled feta and baked until soft, golden and bubbling.

Simple, nourishing and a brilliant way to make the most of the late-summer harvest before we move properly into autumn cooking.

Serve them straight from the oven with crisp dressed leaves, some crusty bread or a few golden potatoes on the side.

As always, our veg box subscribers received the recipe card in their box this week, but we thought we’d share it here too because good food is always better shared.

Live sustainably 🌱

Words to live by for sure but it’s not always easy, always perfectly achievable snd certainly not something we get right all of the time (!) but these four little lines are a pretty good reminder of what we’re trying to do here at Fossoway.

Grow a little more of what we eat, notice what’s actually in season, spend our money with local growers, makers and businesses when we can, and make choices that leave things a little better than we found them.

So perhaps these aren’t rules to live by so much as a direction to keep travelling in. 😊

We talk a lot about sustainability in terms of what we consume, what we grow, what we waste and how we care for the land here at Fossoway Stables and of course, all of that matters … a lot … but it occurred to me that there’s another kind of sustainability we perhaps talk about less.

How we look after each other … the neighbour who checks in, the extra chair pulled up to the table, the vegetables shared over a garden gate, the local business we choose to support and the places where people can come together and feel like they belong.

Perhaps a truly sustainable future isn’t simply one where the planet is healthier, it’s also one where people feel more connected too.

That’s the kind of sustainability we want to keep nurturing here at Fossoway. 🌿
