Around one in four women and one in six men experience domestic abuse in their lifetime.

For many people, leaving an abusive situation means leaving behind their home, financial security and familiar surroundings.

Finding somewhere safe is often the first step.

But rebuilding afterwards can take time, support and the chance to make decisions about the future.

At You Matter, we provide safe accommodation and specialist support for people experiencing domestic abuse, helping people find stability, safety and control.

A mental health crisis can happen at any point in someone’s life.

For some people, having somewhere safe to stay alongside the right support can prevent a difficult situation from becoming even harder.

The staff from our Leeds Street service took some time out for a team day at Dutch Farm 🌾

They enjoyed relaxation and yoga sessions, along with other activities that reminded us all of the importance of a strong team when supporting our residents.

Thank you to Dutch Farm for hosting the team, to Claire and Eleanor from our Psychology team for their support and to Alicia from Prehab for leading some of the sessions.

Are you looking for a career where your compassion makes a direct impact?

As a charity providing support for people experiencing homelessness, domestic abuse and mental health challenges, we’re always looking for dedicated individuals to join our team and the work we do across the Liverpool City Region.

When you work with us, you are not just taking a job, you are joining a supportive, values-led organisation guided by our “SHREK” values: Strength, Humility, Respect, Empathy and Kindness.

Roles across You Matter include frontline support, night shifts and leadership positions. Alongside the work itself, we aim to create a workplace that prioritises wellbeing, development, and a culture of support.

Addiction does not happen in isolation.

Behind every person accessing recovery support is a wider story.

It may include trauma, poor mental health, homelessness, relationship breakdown or difficult experiences that affect how someone copes day to day.

Recovery is not a straight line, and support needs to recognise that.

At You Matter, we work alongside people at different stages of recovery, helping them take the next steps that feel right for them.

We hosted an art evening for the women in our Safe Accommodation, and we’re sure you can agree that the results were brilliant 🖼️

They had the chance to get creative, put their thoughts and feelings onto canvas, chat and enjoy some food together.

Overall, it was an extremely positive evening that the women really enjoyed. Thanks to our team for putting this together.

"They listened, supported and loved in a way that exceeded their job roles."

One resident shared those words after spending a year in our Safe Accommodation Service with her child. She arrived feeling completely lost, having not felt safe in years.

What she found was warmth, consistency and people who showed up for her in ways she hadn't expected. She described her support workers as being like mothers, sisters and friends - while always remaining professional.

She had sessions with our Assistant Psychologist that gave her hope when she had very little, and she spent time at our community garden in Garston, which she described as the best place for healing and connecting.

And at the end of it, she said the year she spent in refuge was the best year of her life up to that point.

That's what person-centred support can do - provide a real sense of safety, and people who care.
