🦕 Did you know you can uncover fossils that are nearly 470 million years old during your stay at Rhiw Wood Treehouses?

Just a short drive away at Upper Gilwern Quarry on our farm, guests can search for ancient trilobites, brachiopods and other prehistoric treasures hidden within the rocks of an ancient ocean.

🦕Make a day of it by combining your fossil hunt with a visit to the incredible Dan-yr-Ogof, The National Showcaves Centre for Wales where underground caverns, waterfalls and life sized dinosaurs await!

It’s a family adventure unlike any other, from exploring the prehistoric past to relaxing in your private hot tub beneath the stars.

🌳We took part in Global Big day!

It’s the largest birdwatching event in the world! As our Treehouses are situated in an ancient wood always bursting with song, we felt it important to log this information today. As the sun rose this morning we captured 31 different species using the .bird.id listening app🌳🐦‍⬛ We advise all our guests to download it, you too can identify the symphony of birdsong of the dawn chorus🌅✨

Here are all the birds we identified in just an hour today.
The * denotes species on the endangered Red or Amber List in the UK, or birds that would normally not be found in this part of the World.

🌍🐦 Did you know that on the 9th May it’s Global Big Day and here at Rhiw Wood Treehouses, we’re surrounded by a chorus worth celebrating.

Nestled in ancient woodland, our little corner of Mid Wales is alive with birdsong. If our guests stay still for a moment they might hear:

🦉 The soft hoot of an owl at dusk
🌳 The rhythmic knock-knocking of woodpeckers
🪶 The unmistakable whistle of red kites soaring overhead

We’re especially proud to share our woodland with some of the UK’s most precious species, including the endangered redstart and pied flycatcher, both on the red list.

To help support them, we’ve created four bird box villages, offering safe nesting spaces where these beautiful birds can thrive.

If you’re joining in with , do keep your ears open you never know what you might discover in the trees and hedgerows. 🌿✨
