Whether you’re looking for a peaceful stroll, a family-friendly route, or somewhere new to discover, this month’s walk is a great place to start. 🚶‍♀️🌳

For an easy, scenic walk with variety, try the Whitby to Ruswarp circular, also called the ‘Ruswarp Round’. This short route includes riverside views, wildlife, and a cosy village pub. 🍻🚶

Route snapshot: 2 miles | about 1 hour | Moderate and well-marked.

Start at Whitby's Marina Back Car Park and walk along the quiet River Esk, between the water and the railway. Watch for a steam train on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway as you go.

A highlight is passing under the impressive Larpool Viaduct. Its arches make a great photo opportunity.

Soon you’ll reach Ruswarp, a charming village that’s perfect for a short stroll or a well-earned drink at The Bridge Inn.

From Ruswarp, follow the historic Monks’ Trod path, clearly signposted after Jackson’s Butchers. Look for wildlife like herons and deer. Cross the old Cinder Track for wide views back toward Whitby.

* There are many good photo opportunities along the way.

If you’re visiting Whitby and want a walk that offers scenery, wildlife, and charm without requiring a full day’s hike, this route is the perfect option.
