THE BRITISH INVASION OF EFFURUN IN 1894.
Fact: On the 8th of August 1894, the British led by Consul Ralph Moor, Invaded Effurun & burnt it to the ground. They were looking for Nana of Itsekiri. Nana's mother Omamese was an Uvwie woman( from Arigbe family). Failing to see him there, they descended on chief Arigbe, Nana's main man and Agent in Effurun. Arigbe fled Effurun and ran to Obirivbo village,. And Consul Ralph Moor much annoyed arrested Erumagborie the Chief Priest of Edjuvbie from the Uvwie Deity shrine, who was also called the Ovie. He gave the Uvwie people 7 days to Produce Arigbe or Erumagborie will be deported.
On the 5th day the Uvwie people surrendered Chief Arigbe and got their high Priest back.
Chief Arigbe was summarily tried but he was found to be innocent. He was thus discharge and Acquitted.
