The Knightsbridge Apartments, London

Lighting Consultant – Lighting Design International

Sitting in the prestigious heart of London, The Knightsbridge Apartments is a high-end luxury residential development situated near Harrods and Hyde Park. Completed in 2005 it was designed by the Squire & Partners Architects.

A refurbishment program is currently underway. Together with Lighting Design International, DAL developed and supplied a range of downlights for the porte-cochere, the entrance building. It replaced the original luminaires without causing further damage to the ceiling. Some of the features of fitting include low glare, high output, medium and asymmetric beam distribution. High CRI 90+, warm 2700K CCT and the IP54 rated protection from below was provided with a clear glass cover.

10 Gresham Street, London

Architect – Gensler
M&E Consultant - AECOM

Originally designed by Foster + Partners in 2003, 10 Gresham Street recently completed a Gensler LED major refurbishment to make the building one of London’s most sustainable office spaces. The building is designed around a central atrium, that extends below ground level, top to bottom, up to 36m distance, allowing daylight to reach the basement floors.

Working with AECOM, DAL supplied Linear Grazer, mounted at the top of the atrium and using precise optical control and anti-glare shields to provide comfortable light throughout the space.

Zayed National Museum has opened its doors to the public. The museum is named after Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the United Arab Emirates, and features exhibitions of artefacts charting the history of the Middle Eastern country from its earliest evidence of human habitation to the modern day.

The scheme’s most prominent feature is the 123m-tall ‘wings’, designed as part of the museum’s ventilation strategy, which rises from the building’s roof. The ‘wings’ also contain glazed openings to channel natural light into the galleries below, which are contained within a broad ‘mound’ structure designed to limit solar gain. The museum contains six permanent galleries, four of which are suspended in ‘pods’ above the central atrium area and linked by sculptural spiral staircases.

DAL’s VP series of architectural downlights were used throughout the project. The VP Series has been employed to complement the sophisticated ceiling styles. Designed with multi-functional compatibility in mind, the VP series provides an ideal lighting solution that accommodates the diverse ceiling types, ensuring consistent aesthetic finishes across the museum’s interior architecture.

76 Upper Ground

Architect - AHMM (Allford Hall Monaghan Morris)
Lighting Designer - Speirs Major

76 Upper Ground is a prominent Grade II listed building located on the vibrant South Bank of the River Thames. Originally designed by renowned British architect Sir Denys Lasdun, it was completed in 1983 for IBM. The building is celebrated as Lasdun’s final major work and was conceived as a complementary structure to the nearby National Theatre, which he also designed.

The building has undergone a complete refurbishment led by AHMM (Allford Hall Monaghan Morris), transforming it into a low-carbon, modern office space while preserving its architectural heritage.

DAL worked with the architects and lighting designers (Speirs Major) to manufacture and supply a range of bespoke architectural feature lighting used in the spectacular double height entrance lobby.
