Forward Arena

Forward Arena New Theatre Company. Past shows at Arcola, Theatre503, Pleasance and the North Wall Arts Centre. Next up: Callisto: a queer epic at Arcola, 5-23 December 2017.

Twitter: . Forward Arena make theatre that is culturally and politically awake, without ever forgetting theatre’s responsibility to be an impressive and stimulating feast of liveness. We’re interested in a theatre that is popular, important and a challenge to the cultural preconceptions that audiences might bring into a space. Our last two full productions were a 2015 international to

uring production of a gay 'Romeo and Juliet' that recast Romeo as a woman, and in 2014 we staged a spectacular reimagining of Martin McDonagh’s 'The Pillowman' at Oxford Playhouse, where the Katurian brothers were cast instead as two sisters.

'Callisto: a queer epic' by Howard Coase:
Four stories scattered across time and space, from a London opera house in 1675 all the way to a research lab on the Moon in the year 2223, spanning the historical and the fictional and everything in between. Callisto traces a constellation of stories that send tremors through the conservative politics that have always underpinned epic tales.

'Children and Animals' by Florence Read:
Night-time in a hotel room. A couple anxiously wait, competing in games for affection and attention, hoping that an envelope stuffed with cash is enough to buy a third player. In an age of simulated experience, who's judging? A dark, dark comedy from the internationally produced writer of 'Twin Primes'.

When producer Ellie's incredible grandma heard we needed a final £10,000 to fund MRS DALLOWAY at Arcola Theatre, she wanted to help. Marion is a superb baker, and is planning a Dalloway-Themed cake (2-tiered, floral design, lemon interior).
So we're going traditional with our fundraising...and having a BAKE SALE. 💐🍰💐
