It’s week 225! I had not done one in my usual style in my little book since February 2025. Right before everything went nuts in my family‘s life. I really enjoyed sitting down today to do this one and I loved it that it included Dahlias and lots of my favorite colors. Today I focused on trying out and mixing a limited watercolor palette. Like actually deciding which colors I was going to use before I started painting and trying to make sure they were all harmonious. I am notorious for just using all of my colors at one time and sometimes that doesn’t work out. This was a gorgeous room and congratulations to the author of the new book it is featured in!

my dad loved seeing my little room portraits, but he did not know how to use the like function on Instagram so he would just send them back to me as a direct message. I miss getting those messages.

What’s it like trying to paint live during a floral fashion show? Especially when you don’t paint people? While everybody was getting ready, and I could get them to stand still I painted the outfits kind of floating and made sort of a painting collage for with a bunch of her outfits and others. During the show, I just focused on vibes. I had about eight minutes per designer, if I wanted to try to create some thing for each of them that showcase the colors and the themes and the vibes of their creations. I’m glad I brought a bunch of different paper with me because I managed to make something for everyone. I felt like DJ jazzy painter Katie I was just bopping and painting and bopping and painting.

If you were not there, you are definitely going to want to be there next year because holy moly a live floral fashion show with all fresh flowers was amazing. The creativity was amazing! All of the local and independent businesses coming together with to make something incredibly special blossom in Wilmington is an experience I will never forget being a part of!

What a cool, fun, joyful, creative experience! I just absolutely loved getting to paint all of the gorgeous Fleur couture creations tonight. Huge congratulations to for pulling this off and having a packed house. It was such a genuinely creative and wonderful experience. I am so grateful to have been a part of it. You did it! You freaking did it.

For two Monday evenings in February, I stopped work on time and went to for a hand building class to make my own tiny coral reef. The first night we built the pottery, and the second night we did the underglazing, which was my favorite since I love to paint! I included the big shark tooth that I found several years ago at Wrightsville Beach on my little coral reef. I mean not the actual tooth but I made a shark tooth and it turned out so well. You can see it in the second picture. I don’t think I’m gonna become a potter, but it is so fun for me to take other classes and other disciplines. It stretches my brain and I meet new people and it gives me new ways of thinking about the things that I make. Thank you again for such a fun class. Highly recommend!

My garden is my studio.

in 2020 I learned to draw flowers and then I learned to paint them and it has been one of the greatest joys of my life. I try all kinds of mediums, but painting watercolor flowers is the thing that makes me the happiest. Watercolor can be so frustrating because it has a mind of its own, but that’s what makes it magic!
