Workshop Alert: Enchanted Forest watercolor on canvas!

Did you know that you can use watercolor on canvas? You can if it has been properly prepared.

In this class, you will get a demonstration of how to prepare canvas for painting with watercolor.

Then you will get to paint your own enchanted (or spooky, depending on how you want to look at it) forest on a 7 x 7 or similar canvas.

Each ticket comes with a cup of frozen yogurt from our host Van Gogh Gurt and a time to shop around at Azalea Antiques & Art while your painting is drying.

More Techniques you’ll learn:
- High flow watercolor mixing
- Gouache details
- A smidge of color theory and composition

If you’ve wanted to play with watercolor in Wilmington, North Carolina, and you’re curious about painting with watercolor on canvas, you’re gonna learn a lot and have tons of fun!

Notes from the blue
cyanotype on envelope, 2026
at first, I was gonna redo this one because of the weird blob on the left-hand side, but that would kind of defeat the point of the message, now wouldn’t it?

Got my vase back from painting with Polka Dot Pottery Studio 🐞 Paint Your Own Pottery at Trask Family Farms and arranged my flowers in it. They look great and so does the vase! What a fun time! And now I have a great memento of an evening spent with friends doing something creative.

I just absolutely love helping people discover that they can paint, they can create, and they can try new things.

Everyone at today’s birthday party did great and basically none of them had painted before except for the birthday girl who painted the beautiful orchid. She was a little bit nervous, but I have watched her paint for a couple of months and I was like “I know that you can do this so let’s go!”

I just love it that her idea of a fun birthday was creating with all of her friends. She knows who she is and if she sees this, I just want her to know that I loved being a part of her special day.

If you want to get your group of friends together to create, give me a shout. Send a message. It would be my honor.

There are some things you will always remember.
people and events that stay in your heart and color everything that you do. So so many things changed after that day. And for people who are not alive or too young to remember that before times it’s hard to articulate just how many things are different now. I lived about half my life before and I’ve lived about half my life after. And there is a distinct after, for me personally, and for the world.

Every clear blue sky day in the fall takes me back for just a minute. Every single one.

Every time the sky is that shade of blue and the air has that feeling, I think of this day and all of the people on the ground and in the air. And the people that belong to those people.

I’ll probably never look at a blue sky without thinking of them. That sounds like hyperbole, but for someone who lives in color, that blue is seared into my memory.

And so are the people.
