5 weeks of living back in Pembrokeshire.

I adore the place it is where my heart is happiest and I am so sad I have had to leave to come back to Doncaster 😭😭.

But here's a bit of a photo dump.
In 5 weeks I/we have laid carpets, done most of the painting, found 2 wires that have been drilled through so lifted carpets again, laid all the kitchen floor and most of the living room floor, fitted the utility room cupboards, finished tiling the fireplace, finished plaster boarding the fireplace and fitted the mantle beam, moved in some furniture and started prepping the stairs for painting.

Oh and finished the electrics (just testing to go) and nearly finished the plumbing.

Oh and ripped up all the garden and laid new sewers.

Now to count down the days until I can go back and get it finished and ready for our first guests in September.

And just when the house is nearly done and I am cleaning. The garden starts!!!Why are we doing this on the wettest day f...

Back to Doncaster tomorrow 😭😭😭.
The sun has finally come out too.

It's been a tough couple of weeks if I'm honest. We have done loads and the end is so close and yet the frustration of not being here long enough to get things finished has really pulled on on both of us. Calvin especially.

But we are only human and we can only do what we can.

Our fantastic builders are nearly finished and soon going to leave me to get to the end post alone 😳😳. It's a very scary prospect. Dan has been a constant support since April and I always knew when I left things would be OK and carry on. That will no longer be the case. If we're not here everything will stop.

So at the end of 12 days, La Bastille has yet again got a kitchen. It will have the first fix plumbing done. Enough of the fireplace is tiled so the log burner can be fitted (we have run out of tiles as the fireplace is now twice as big 😂) and there is a mist coat of paint somewhere in most rooms. 👍.

Just a 6 hour drive home where I will stay long enough to have a tooth out, go to a hospital appointment for my back and take the eldest to the train station to go on holiday and then myself and the youngest daughter will be back to hit it hard with a paintbrush and hopefully get everything ready to carpet the bedrooms by the end of the month. 🤯

New Window!!!

This window was never in the plan but when the render was chipped off outside it soon became clear that the smallest room in the house was supposed to have a window in the gable end wall.

So it is now a double aspect room, my thought out electrics are in the wrong place, it's going to be a twin room instead of a double and my light fitting is going to be too big 😂😂😂.

Got to love old buildings and thier secrets.

And I am back home.
The last few days have flown past in a blur of long days and pointing hammers.
Most of the walls in the living room are prepped for pointing and the render has started to be removed outside showing the loveliest stone wall (and an ugly breeze block bit.
Can't wait to go back a week on Monday to see the rest of it exposed.

It's no wonder this corner was damp with the blocks right up against the stone wall.Hopefully the new lime render outsid...

It's no wonder this corner was damp with the blocks right up against the stone wall.
Hopefully the new lime render outside will help keep it drier in future as we can't remove the blocks

Happy Saint Davids Day to you all.
All these pictures are taken within 15 minutes of La Bastille and I can't wait until the renovation is complete so we can go back to enjoying the beauty and water that can be found all over Pembrokeshire.

Frustrating week in January.
We got the bargain bath in situ so now know the layout of the bathroom.
We started overboarding the ceilings upstairs and Saturday morning when we walked in we found the chimney had failed and the ceilings are now wet. Luckily it didn't reach the new plasterboard but it meant we couldn't finish that job.
We put a bag over the chimney to hopefully reduce the leakage until April when the scaffolding goes up.
Other jobs were taking out the back door and blocking it up, building a new supporting wall and put a doorway in for the downstairs toilet.
The old kitchen has been ripped out and windows and doors are ordered.
Oh and we found out the lintels over the side door are rotten, but the door is also getting blocked up so we will fix that when the outside is getting done.
