Pannier Tank 7714 Facing South... one day to go until our Autumn Steam Gala!

Visiting Great Western Pannier Tank 7714 is giving a bit of variety for photographic opportunities this weekend facing South (ie. towards Heywood).

📸📸 Tomorrow morning (Friday 16th) the gala kicks off with some photographic run-pasts at Burrs Country Park!

Departing Bury at 08.15am, 7714 will be hauling a period 1960’s Goods Train along with our GWR ‘Toad’ Brake Van, and offering something different from previous morning charters with the locomotive giving southbound run-pasts.

The run-pasts will take place in the field opposite Burrs Country Park Station, which is accessed by following the path from the Station, turning left and going underneath the railway towards the field. A suggested donation of £15 is asked for this photography session, payable on the day in the field.

Better still for 2026, there will be a shuttle train hauled by L&Y 752 which will depart Bury at 07.52 and drop off at Burrs in time to photograph and watch the runpasts with 7714! If you’ve not been to Burrs to watch and photograph these runpasts before, be sure to make it part of your itinerary for this year!

We’re excited to grow our kitchen team and are looking for a dedicated Sous Chef to join us at The Bolholt Country Park Hotel.

About the Role
This is a full‑time, 40‑hour position with a mixture of breakfast and evening shifts. You’ll work closely with our Head Chef, support daily operations, and help deliver high‑quality dishes to our guests across hotel dining, events, and functions.

What We’re Looking For
Experienced chef with strong kitchen background

Must be 18 or over

Ability to work confidently in a fast‑paced environment

Good communication and teamwork skills

Passion for food, presentation, and consistency

Reliability and a professional attitude

Understanding of food safety and kitchen hygiene standards

What You’ll Be Doing
Assisting with food preparation and cooking across breakfast and evening service

Supporting the Head Chef with daily operations

Helping lead the kitchen during busy periods

Contributing ideas for specials and menu development

Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organisation

Ensuring smooth service during functions, events, and hotel dining
