Nothing to with our holiday let! This is Ted, our rescue dog and we love the very bones of him.

This was taken on one of the walks between masham and Ripon, underneath the snow are the ruins of a medieval village that was affected by the plague.

We often get really good snow in January and February- enough to sledge and sometimes ski in!

This is one of my favourite things in the house. We found it when we were renovating - up in the attic . It's thought to be WW1 hospital art and features the West Yorkshire Insignia. Just outside of Masham, up on the moors was the training camp of the Leeds Pals, part of this regiment. They set off for France and were utterly decimated. We believe this was done by a recouping veteran.

Sheep of Instagram?

Here's a delightful Swaledale I met whilst out walking the other week. This breed are known for their hardy natures, course fleece, black and white faces and those horns.

Masham is famous for its sheep fair and you'll find no shortage of them if you explore the footpaths and bridle ways around the town.

This is my favourite!
Swinton Hotel, Spa and Country club is a five minute drive/ ten minute walk from the house and it is out of this world!

Spa days are great- champagne in the hot tubs? Lie under heated sheepskin throws? press the bell for drinks and food? a few different hot and steam experiences.. world class products and services. If you fancy a treat- this is well worth it.

If you know, you know and if you don't, let me give you a quick run down. Masham has historically grown up and sheep farming, when wool was a valuable commodity Masham thrived on it. The monks of nearby Fountains abbey owned much of the surrounding lands and farmers etc would bring their sheep off the hills to masham market to trade and show off their wares.

This ancient tradition still continues and it's a rarity to see so many sheep in such a traditional setting, shown with such pride.

Never fear, its not just sheep, its a huge celebration, one of masham's biggest. expect special beers, shearing shows, sheep races, stalls, fun fairs, food galore and of course, hundreds of breeds of sheep.
It's on the 25th September this year and it's well worth a visit to enjoy a true Yorkshire day out!

Ok, so we absolutely love steam trains. There's something wonderful about their speed, the sounds, the smell- and this one is a really special one!

There are a few options if you want to do this whilst you stay with us. If you want to push to boat out - the Northern Belle is amazing and does a variety of journeys through Yorkshire including this one.

The Dalesman is equally good but a bit more pocket friendly, if you select first class you cant bring your own hamper !
