The UK will experience a partial solar eclipse on Wednesday 12 August.

The extent of the Sun’s coverage and the timing of maximum obscuration will differ across the country. Local weather conditions may impact viewing opportunities, so it’s worth checking the forecast in advance 🌦️

Northeast Scotland will have around 88% covered just before 7pm, whilst in the far southwest of England there will be around 96% coverage just after 7:15pm.

Never look directly at the sun; use a pinhole projector or certified eclipse glasses to view it.

Detail of Great Willowherb, Epilobium hirsutum. A common wildflower which may attain heights of 1.8m. Look for it now, especially in periodically inundated ground; so a low-lying river bank, for example, would be a good place to start.

🌿 Fifty shades of green… Exmoor style! 🌿
One of the things we love most about Exmoor is how quickly the landscape can change. Leave the open moor behind and wander into one of its hidden combes, and suddenly you're surrounded by moss-covered rocks, tumbling streams, and ferns in every shade of green.
On a summer's day, these little valleys feel like a secret world – cool, peaceful, and full of birdsong. The perfect place to slow down and enjoy the quieter side of Exmoor. 💚

Exmoor | Fifty shades of green in a hidden combe.

Deep in one of Exmoor's steep little valleys, a stream stair-steps down over cushions of moss, with ferns unfurling on every bank and the summer canopy closing overhead. Stand here and the only sounds are water and birdsong.

The moor is famous for its open heather tops, but its combes are another world — cool, damp and impossibly green even in the height of summer. Every one hides something: a cascade like this, an old packhorse bridge, a pool where the light gets in.
