Cared for as Ireland's first nature reserve since 1967, the fragile 6000 year old sand dune system lovely walking and discover wild nature its birds, flowers, butterflies and more. Overlooked by the rounded peaks of the Mourne Mountains to the south.

Wonderful photograph of our local beach - beautiful at any time of the year!

Most of the times when I head to the Mournes, it's because I want to hike up into the heart of the mountains rather than spend time below looking up.

But there was that one time when I had come down off Bearnagh in the snow and was heading home when, out of my rear view mirror, I caught a glimpse of the sky going on fire behind me.

My legs might have been tired from the hike, but I somehow managed to eek out one last spurt of energy as I rushed along the boardwalk to get to the beach before the colour faded!
