New cafe ☕️ opening up. 👍🏻

We can’t wait to welcome our first customers on Wednesday 5th August from 8am! We’ve been working hard getting the cafe ready for you and can’t wait to share our new menus! ✨

☕️ We are proud to be serving Surface Coffee Roasters ® coffee, locally ground and roasted just down the road. Come and grab a coffee and enjoy our new breakfast, lunch and brunch menus. We will also be serving a large range of cold and iced drinks for you to enjoy!

Our RNLI Lifeguard teams are now back on daily patrols, and we’re excited to welcome Great Western, Tolcarne and Porth to the line-up 🛟

The Gannel estuary can be a great place for paddleboarding, kayaking, swimming and exploring. But it’s also where we carry out the majority of our rescues so it’s important to understand the tides.

With large spring tides approaching this weekend and a number of interventions over Easter, it’s a good time to be extra aware of conditions before heading out.

Tidal flow in the channel can be strong, especially on an incoming or outgoing tide, and sandbanks and water levels change quickly throughout the day.

Things to be aware of:

Avoid going on the section of river between the sea and the Fernpit. Staying up river where the lifeguards put the river flags will allow more time to get to the side, and the channel is wider allowing the current to disperse.

Always be aware of your closest exit route.

Remember:

• Some tides are bigger and faster than others
The speed of the flow changes at different stages of the tide
• Storms and strong winds can increase the flow
• Large surf can push into the estuary and create extra movement
Stay away from the rivermouth

Before you go:

• Check the tide times
• Be aware of strong currents in the main channel
• Avoid offshore winds
• Make sure someone knows where you are
