🌺Don't mow, let it grow🌺

It's and I can't think of a better excuse to leave the mower in the shed for a whole month (or maybe even for the whole summer...) 🌼🌺

Letting your grass do its own thing will allow beautiful wildflowers to establish within the grass which will help feed our hungry pollinators 🐝🦋🪲

Andddd...it doesn't have to be as unruly as you might think...you can mow a border/walkway around the edge or segregate off a small section to go wild. Like I always say small spaces can make a HUGE difference! 🌼🪲

WHAT IF we could turn this around? WHAT IF we could come together in our local communities and collectively imagine how we want our future to be? and WHAT IF we worked together to make it happen?

Often working in the conservation/environmental sector we strive as individuals and collectives to make things better, to improve and to conserve. I like to think I'm a relatively positive person but I still enviably feel huge eco-anxiety about how the future might look...BUT reading this book has been an absolute breath of fresh air and inspiration which shows that WE CAN in fact TURN IT AROUND! ✨

We just have to start working together, on local scales and once all communities are striving for the same thing we might see countrywide or even worldwide change! 🌍

I'm always talking about small spaces making a HUGE DIFFERENCE so why not start by convincing yourself and your neighbours to make your gardens more wildlife friendly 🐝🦋🐞 Oh and whilst you're at it I would recommend reading this book!!! 📚

🌍 HAPPY EARTH DAY 🌎

Of course everyday is but today is about celebrating how wonderful our home really is and ways in which we can help conserve it!

So here are 5 simple things you can do in your own back garden to help nature:

1. PLANT WILDFLOWERS 🌻🌺🌼🌸 planting wildflower seed in your border/pots/hanging baskets/window boxes (yes they really are that versatile) is an easy way to provide essential habitat for pollinating species...soon your garden will be bursting with bees, butterflies, beetles, hoverflies, you name it the insects will come and in turn so will the birds as the insects are a yummy food source for them too! 🦋🪲🐦 (For wildflower seed check out our Etsy shop)

2. PROVIDE BEE/BUG HOTELS 🐝🐞 providing bee hotels gives solitary bees places to lay their eggs...naturally they would have laid them in dead wood & plant stems but habitat loss is making these more and more scarce. Bug hotels also provide essential habitat for insects to hibernate in over winter! 🐝🐞 (For bee & bug hotels check out our Etsy shop)

3. CREATE A COMPOST HEAP 🪱🌱 adding a compost heap to your garden will attract insects which are essential for decomposing organic matter, which in turn will provide you with healthy soil to put back into your garden! You might even find a slow worm or two hiding in there if you're lucky 🦎🤞

4. ADD BIRD FEEDERS 🐣🐦 adding bird feeders to your garden will attract an array of species from long tailed t**s to starlings and maybe even great spotted woodpeckers if you're lucky! 🤞🐦

5. DIG A POND 🌊🐸 adding a pond to your garden is the quickest way to increase biodiversity...it will attract dragonflies & damselflies to frogs & newts, what more could you want?! 🌊🐸

Hopefully these tips have given you some inspiration of ways to increase biodiversity in your back garden and remember no place is to small for wildlife...provide the habitat and the wildlife will come!! 🌻🐞🌺🐝

Beautiful Wild Bluebells 🌻🟪

A little for you...Gloucestershire is one of the best counties in the UK for mass displays of bluebells! 🟪🟣

But why?!

It's all down to our beautiful beech trees, they're one of the last trees to get their leaves allowing all the sunlight to burst through onto the woodland floor and in turn burst full of bluebells! 🌳🌼🟪

Anyway have a fab Easter Bank hol everyone, may it be filled with many Bluebells 😁

Today's sunshine got me thinking back to this bee-autiful garden from the RHS Flower Show 🌼🌺🌻🌷

Tbh I've lost my mojo and been pretty MIA on here recently...turns out starting a new job and moving to a new place makes life kinda hectic 😂 buuuuuuut spring is upon us and I'm so ready to get my insect and wildflower groove back on💃🏼🌺

Andddddd I now (thanks to my awesome old colleagues) have National Trust membership so I've got even more excuse to visit pretty gardens like this one 😍🌻

Andddddd I might even have plans for a wildflower seed giveaway, so watch this space 👀🌷

Just had to kick off my first post of 2022 with a bang and what better way than with Dumbledore himself 🧙‍♂️🐝

Now you're probably thinking what on earth...has the new year gone to her head already?! But no!! 🌻

Dumbledore is an old English word for bumblebee...and all this time I've been thinking he was a wizard 🧙‍♂️😂 Who knew?!
