Lots of people first find us because they need a convenient overnight stop near the M1.

Then they realise thereā€™s actually rather a lot to stick around for.

Stanton by Dale has countryside walks straight from the village, Dale Abbey and Hermitā€™s Cave nearby, plenty to explore around Derbyshire and, of course, a pub waiting for you when you get back.

So you donā€™t have to leave again first thing in the morning. šŸ˜‰

There is something rather lovely about camping at this time of year.

Crisp mornings, muddy boots, quieter footpaths and an excuse to find a cosy pub afterwards. šŸ‚

Weā€™re open throughout autumn and winter, with plenty of countryside to explore straight from the village.

Irondale is a small, peaceful village campsite for people who want somewhere quiet to pitch up, explore the local countryside, have a drink at the pub and actually switch off for a while.

Sometimes simple is exactly what you want.

One fairly big advantage of camping at Irondaleā€¦

The pub is right there. šŸŗ

The Chequers Inn sits alongside the campsite, so thereā€™s no taxi home and no designated driver required.

Food is available too ā€” it just needs to be pre-ordered at least 24 hours beforehand. Youā€™ll find the current menu in your booking confirmation email so you can get everything sorted before you arrive.

Then itā€™s only a few steps back to the van afterwards!

Heading north or south and donā€™t fancy doing the whole journey in one go?

Weā€™re only around 5 minutes from the M1, making Irondale a very handy overnight stop when youā€™re travelling through the middle of the country. šŸš

And instead of a night on a motorway services car park, you can have a proper pitch in a peaceful Derbyshire village, countryside walks and a country pub right next door.

Much nicer way to break up a long drive, we think.

There are miles of walks straight from Stanton by Dale, so you donā€™t need to drive somewhere every time you fancy exploring.

One of our local favourites takes you towards the old Dale Abbey ruins and Hermitā€™s Cave ā€” a lovely bit of local history practically on our doorstep.

Perfect if youā€™ve brought the dog along too!

ā€œ Firstly a big thank you to Sue and Ian. Sue has been amazing making our 2 week stay very pleasant, very welcoming.

The site is behind The Chequers pub even though a busy village pub we never heard the drinkers leave. Thereā€™s 5 pitches nice size with a grassed area and wooden table/bench. All facilities except shower which we noted in the advert when booking. The toilets are part of the pub and available 24/7. It was very quiet and tranquil.

We have an RV 5th wheel the entrance is a bit tight but we got in and out no problem.

The pub is open everyday from 4pm or 12pm Sat/Sun. Lots of the villagers use it which says something and all very chatty with us. The pub does food which needs to be ordered by midday (saves wastage) itā€™s bought fresh each day and was really good. Great piece of fish and hubby said one of best homemade steak pie heā€™s had. Iā€™d def recommend booking.

We tried the other pub which is more a food pub all Iā€™ll say is book a meal at The Chequers. Dogs very welcome they have two lovely dogs Sid and Frank.

There are PLENTY of places to walk dogs. The field next to the pitches (access right out of pub grounds then right again) you can walk miles and let your dogs run off leads. We also had the pleasure of Ken the hawk who came out most days on his perch. We would definitely recommend this place itā€™s adult only and we will be back.

One of the things we hear most from guests?

Just how peaceful it is here. šŸŒæ

Despite being only a few minutes from the M1, once youā€™re pitched up in Stanton by Dale it feels a world away.

Quiet village, countryside on the doorstep and the pub right next to the campsite. Not a bad place to stop for the nightā€¦ or a little longer.
