It seems more than fitting as we mark the end of volunteers week we say Thank You to the King of Siam Old Scout Association this week.

King of Siam’s K.S.O (1st Balham and Tooting) Rovers took on the difficult job in the wake of WW2 of restoring the site after it was handed back to the Scout Association after being used as a training camp for the Home Guard. The site required TLC, grit and hard-work to make it usable again. This became the start of long relationship between Downe and the K.S.O. Their decades of continued service at Downe which continues to be present throughout the site today.

This week we hosted Afternoon Tea & site tour with the OLD K.S.O who were very complementary about the progress and hard-work of our volunteers.

The Old K.S.O kindly made a generous donation, which we have used fittingly to purchase new beds for the Service Crew Volunteers.
Volunteers continue to be the heart of Downe after almost 100 years.

Thank you

Happy World Environment Day 💚🌍🦋🌱

This site could have been lost, when we took over this campsite we made a commitment to protect this very special environment.

Today on National Environment Day, we are proud to celebrate not only this amazing place but the volunteers who help us care for it.

In 2025, the Downe Community volunteered 17,000 hours of their time to building a site that has been enjoyed by so many different individuals and groups.

In 2026, we have already beat last year’s statistics. Hours not only of hard work but friendship building, memory making and skill developing.
