Autumn at The Cottage.

The best weekends are the ones spent with your favourite people.

When did you last get away with your best friends? No children to organise, no endless to-do lists. Just time to catch up properly, laugh about old memories and make a few new ones.

At Well Furlong Cottage, autumn weekends are made for exactly this.

Long walks through the countryside, a swim in the heated indoor pool, a little friendly competition on the tennis court and afternoons spent chatting over a glass of fizz in the outdoor copper bath.

Nature always has its own plans.

Three years ago, we drilled a wildflower meadow mix around the Shepherd’s Retreat, hoping to create something beautiful for both wildlife and our guests.

Since then, we’ve left nature to do its thing. But this year, despite us changing absolutely nothing, the meadow has completely transformed. This seems to be the year of the daisies, with swathes of white blooms replacing many of the flowers we’ve enjoyed in previous summers.

Is it the weather? The maturity of the meadow? Soil conditions? Or is this simply how a wildflower meadow naturally evolves over time?

If you know the answer, we’d love to hear from you. 🌼🌿

What makes a truly dog-friendly retreat? 🐾

Is it acres of countryside to explore and the freedom to run? Or is it being allowed to curl up on the bed with you?

We love welcoming well-behaved four-legged guests, and with so much open space to enjoy, many dogs seem to think they’ve found their own little slice of heaven.

That said, we do ask dogs to stay out of the bedrooms and carpeted areas so we can keep these spaces fresh and comfortable for all our guests.

So perhaps it’s the dogs who love long walks, muddy adventures and plenty of room to roam that enjoy it most here.

Slow breakfasts overlooking the countryside. Afternoons spent between the indoor pool, outdoor bath and long walks across 80 private acres. Then evenings together around the table before retreating to the outdoor bath beneath the stars.
