What makes a truly dog-friendly retreat? 🐾

Is it acres of countryside to explore and the freedom to run? Or is it being allowed to curl up on the bed with you?

We love welcoming well-behaved four-legged guests, and with so much open space to enjoy, many dogs seem to think they’ve found their own little slice of heaven.

That said, we do ask dogs to stay out of the bedrooms and carpeted areas so we can keep these spaces fresh and comfortable for all our guests.

So perhaps it’s the dogs who love long walks, muddy adventures and plenty of room to roam that enjoy it most here.

Summer may be filled up… but September is when this place comes into its own.

Slow breakfasts overlooking the countryside. Afternoons spent between the indoor pool, outdoor bath and long walks across 80 private acres. Then evenings together around the table before retreating to the outdoor bath beneath the stars.

With limited summer availability.

I didn’t realise how much I needed the quiet until I arrived. The kind that settles in slowly. Open fields, soft light, and nowhere else to be.

Mornings begin without urgency. Coffee outside. Just birdsong and fresh air. Afternoons drift. A walk, a rest, then another. No plans. No pressure.

Evenings are the best part. The light softens across the hills, and everything feels still. Time stretches. You stay a little longer outside, then a little longer again.

Come on your own and reset. Bring the dog and roam. Arrive with someone you love, or gather a few close friends or family and settle in together. It works, whichever way you choose to stay.

A weekend of love and celebration at Well Furlong Shepherds Retreat 💕💖💕💖💕💖

Last weekend, the retreat became a little wedding HQ — and we couldn’t have loved it more.

Friday night kicked off with the bride and her maid of honour, settling in for a relaxed evening before the big day. Bubbles, laughter, and a little last-minute pampering filled the air.

By Saturday morning, the place was buzzing — hair, makeup, flowers, and the gentle hum of pre-wedding excitement. The bride’s father arrived to collect her, ready to walk her down the lane to Little Comberton Church.

That evening, the new Mr & Mrs returned for a quiet night together — hot tub under the stars, fairy lights twinkling, and a well-earned glass of fizz in hand.

On Sunday, their two boys joined for a final night — family fun, bunk beds, and one last dip in the hot tub before home.

From hen night to mini-moon to family getaway, this weekend had it all — just missing a dog to make the guest list complete.
