🌿 Walk Our Sacred Landscape — The Quantocks 🌿

Not every story is found in streets.....

Some are written into hillsides.
Into earthworks.
Into the shape of the land itself.

This April, Extours introduces a very different kind of guided experience — an outdoor archaeological walk through the Quantock Hills.

This is not a gentle town stroll.

It is a steady, moderate hill walk across uneven terrain, with sustained ascents and open ground underfoot. Participants should be comfortable walking for around two hours on natural tracks and historic earthworks.

Our Sacred Landscape Walk explores the wider prehistoric setting of the Quantocks — including Dead Woman’s Ditch, Dowsborough Castle and Walford’s Gibbet — as part of a connected landscape shaped by thousands of years of human activity.

As we move through the hills, we examine:

• Who lived here in prehistoric and early historic periods
• Why this landscape mattered
• What archaeology reveals about settlement and defence
• How people shaped, understood and used this terrain

Participants will also have the opportunity to handle real prehistoric flint tools — a rare and tangible connection to those who once walked these same slopes.

Expect open views.
Wind on the hill.
And a slower, landscape-led way of discovering the past.
