Just opposite the Walled Garden lie the peaceful ruins of St Moluag’s Chapel, one of Raasay’s oldest historic sites.

Dating back to the 13th century, the chapel is named after St Moluag, the Irish missionary who travelled through the Highlands and islands spreading Christianity in the 6th century.

It’s believed he visited Raasay around the year 562 AD, leaving a lasting mark on the island’s history.

Raasay is also famous for its rich piping tradition and a plaque dedicated to the legendary piper John MacKay who was born here in 1767 lays within the grounds. His son Angus MacKay, born in 1812, went on to become Queen Victoria’s first official Piper to the Sovereign.

His music helped preserve and shape Highland piping for generations to come.

Today, St Moluag’s remains are a quiet place to pause, take in the history , and imagine the centuries of island life that have unfolded here.

An afternoon walk up Temptation Hill is one of the best ways to experience springtime on Raasay.

Starting from the Pictish Stone, the path climbs gently through bright yellow gorse and carpets of bluebells, opening up to stunning views across North Bay, over to Skye, and down towards Raasay’s community-owned Walled Garden. ✨

The route continues alongside Home Loch before looping back down. Rumour has that from June, there may be even more temptation waiting at the end…

Thyme & Tide Bakes will be reopening for a well earned coffee and slice of cake after soaking up some of the island’s best scenery.

A perfect spring walk on Raasay.

A familiar sight on the Croft opposite the Distillery, visible from the road.

Our resident Highland x Dexter cows have been enjoying the Raasay sunshine and looking as photogenic as ever. With their gentle nature and unmistakable shaggy charm, they’re always a favourite with visitors and locals alike.

Keep an eye out for them next time you’re exploring the island.
