🔎 According to data by , the U.S. has generated about 91 million tons of surplus food in 2021, which is almost 40% of the total production.

❌ Only 62% (150M Tons) of food are consumed in the U.S. The rest (excluding donations) are surplus food.

❌ In the past 5 years, as consumption has steadily increased, so has the surplus uneaten food that is eventually wasted (ending in landfill).

❌ Despite the amount of surplus in the U.S., 33.8 million people still live with food insecurity in their households.

🌠🎖️Mater Fondazione’s Refettorio has achieved the All Star-Level score of 100%! Congratulations 🎊

🥘 During lunch hours, the restaurant offers delectable contemporary cuisine, during dinner, the same menu is served for free to people in precarious situations, letting people have access to a balanced diet regardless of circumstances. The non-profit foundation is dedicated to honor the value of food and make sure it is on the plates of either customers or those in need instead of being thrown away.

💡Mater Fondazione demonstrated their creativity in tackling food waste by implementing a solution 🍽️ The menu is changed every week to utilize the food and avoid food waste. The clients who do not finish their played will automatically received their leftovers in take-away boxes.

With the help of Swiss-based Rebelle Consultancy ’s Christina Anderson and Jessica Mouilah, Mater Fondazione has achieved something truly remarkable. This accomplishment plays a huge role in the future of sustainability and food waste management.
