43 groups and organisations were recognised with grants at the 33rd annual Redruth Charity Trust Community Awards.

Their biggest-ever awards were the first in a three-year Spirit of Redruth campaign launched in March that has raised £100,000 to date.

A recruitment drive generated 39 business sponsors, raising a total of £75,000 with 13 individual supporters pledging a combined £25,000.

The Harris Foundation donated books to local schools, and Teagle Machinery has launched a Tomahawk Apprenticeships programme aimed at local youngsters looking to gain valuable vocational skills and to support community groups with maintenance and minor repairs.

Lidl Planning Application Update

Lidl has submitted a planning application to Cornwall Council to build a new superstore, opposite the existing Tesco on the A3047.

Redruth Town Council voted to defer its response, requesting that they provide more detail about the plans. The Town Council’s Planning Committee has arranged an extraordinary meeting with the developers at Redruth Civic Centre at 6pm on Tuesday 20 October to hear about the proposals and from local residents and businesses regarding the plans.

You can view the proposed plans on the Cornwall Council planning portal linked below and submit comments on the application, using reference PA26/04731.
