How to spend (at least) 1 perfect day in Reeth: where Swaledale & Arkengarthdale meet. With a large village green at its heart, Reeth is surrounded by wonderful walks, hay meadows, the curling River Swale and Arkle Beck. I now start every trip there at Two Dales Bakery before they sell out of my favourite pastries, before setting out to enjoy the swing bridge walk but you could also walk in the other direction towards Arkle Beck.

Around the corner, the Silver Street studios are host to Laceys Cheese (excellent cheese-making courses), Distinctly Dales woolcrafts, Michael Kusz's incredible Graculus Sculptures as well as some other interesting businesses.

There are two really good places to find out more about Reeth and surrounding area: Hudson House, the Yorkshire Dales National Park info & exhibition centre) make sure you wander around the small but beautiful community garden with a min-exhibition in the old Privy!), and Swaledale Museum. The museum is a very special place that feels well-loved and cared for. It's not large but it manages to cover a lot of history in its small space. it's full of local treasures and has a very unstuffy, hands-on attitude.

After a good walk, there are several pubs and cafes to enjoy, including the lovely Reeth Ice Cream Parlour.

Take some time to wander around a little - there are lots of intriguing details, shops and other spots to discover.
