Jazz is coming to the Dales!

The Leyburn Jazz Festival returns from 15–18 October.

This year’s programme features a fantastic mix of jazz styles, with performances ranging from swing and gypsy jazz to Latin rhythms and contemporary interpretations of some familiar favourites.

Among the line-up are Orchestra Mambo International, Steely Jazz, the Alexia Gardner Trio, Will Barnes Quartet, Ben Shankland Trio, Nicki Allan Quartet, The Roaring Twenties and Simon O’Byrne.

Most of the action takes place in the atmospheric surroundings of St Matthew’s Church in Leyburn – a rather special setting for a weekend of live music.

Whether you’re a dedicated jazz fan or simply enjoy discovering great live music, it sounds well worth a visit.

Do you love cheese? We certainly do!

Today marks the start of the Yorkshire Dales Cheese Festival, Celebrating Local Produce , which runs from 9–18 October and celebrates the wonderful variety of cheeses made here in the Dales – and the rich heritage and skills behind them.

The festival brings together local cheesemakers, cafés, pubs, restaurants and other businesses across the Yorkshire Dales, with events and activities taking place throughout the area.

It’s a lovely opportunity to discover some fantastic local cheeses, meet the people who make and serve them and perhaps find a new favourite along the way!

A little touch of the season

We always try to pop some seasonal flowers around The Old Vicarage before our guests arrive.

Where possible, we like to use flowers and foliage from the garden, bringing a little of the season indoors and adding a welcoming touch to the house.

Simple, but we hope it makes arriving at The Old Vicarage feel that little bit more special.

Last chance for a Helwith Tea Garden treat!

Our friends at Helwith Tea Garden are serving their last scones of the season today.

This little hidden gem is much loved by guests and locals alike and makes a great stopping-off point on a number of beautiful walks in the area.

Thanks for all the teas, cream teas and bacon rolls this year! We hope you enjoy a well-earned winter break and look forward to seeing you reopen next spring.
