On the night of 21st April 1941, six young Saltash auxiliary firemen, friends who had grown up together, lost their lives answering the call during the Plymouth Blitz. A memorial service was held at St Stephens Church in 2021 to mark 80 years since the tragedy, and this spring the community gathered again, this time to mark 85 years, and for the blessing of the six restored and refurbished graves.

We were honoured to have made the interpretation panel that now stands as a permanent tribute to these six men, telling their story for generations to come and in the hope that future generations of the town will never forget the sacrifices these men made.

A message from the lead organiser has meant a great deal to us:

"The storyboard is fantastic and was admired by many, a fitting tribute to those brave six Saltash lads. Thank you so much for all your help and support, especially to Simon and Joe."

May they rest in peace. 🌹

We often talk about craft and heritage, and sure those projects often add a layer of something special but in reality we're often working on more practical stuff.

This week for example this pretty hefty 'Works Traffic Merging 200yds' roadside sign was made. Extra points if you can guess whose legs these are?!! πŸ˜‰

And a little reminder that whatever the brief, we're here for it. 🚧

Happy Birthday to Karen, our MD and the absolute heart of Parc Signs. 🀍

The one who keeps all the plates spinning, and somehow keeps us all motivated while she’s doing it. Admired by everyone here for good reason. There’s been a fabulous lemon πŸ‹ and cream cake, baked by Soph, and a freezer full of ice creams and lollies.🍦

It’s been a happy work day. Wishing you a wonderful one Karen, from all of us x

Some properly big vehicles have been in lately. Lucky for us, our loading bay can take whatever rolls up. 7.5 tonne artics, no problem.

And incase you didn't know, truck owners are a particular bunch, loads of them name their rigs and they really care what they look like out on the road. We honestly love the lingo too; curtain siders, reefers (refrigerated to you or I), low loaders, flat beds, transporters. Whatever you've got, whether it's a single vehicle or a fleet, we can work on it. πŸš›

Recent ones in: Mid Cornwall Landscaping Ltd, Vintage Tractors on Tour, Gordon Martin & Son, Cornwall Waste Care, and Henry Orchard & Son.

A real mix; full wraps, cut vinyls, print and cut. Some of our truckers have been coming back to us for years, decades in a couple of cases, which we don't take for granted.

Working at this scale isn't always straightforward. Our print goes up to 1500mm so we plan the joins carefully. Wind deflectors means working at height, and fades that have to match round a corner take a bit of patience. We're not in a rush with these though, the owners care about getting it right, and so do we.

Sometimes a project introduces you to something new. 🀎

We were recently up in Lincoln fitting a signage scheme for a new Cornish Bakery site, and got to see this beautiful exterior surface up close, a warm, terracotta-toned clay plaster by Clayworks, based, as it happens, just down the road from us in Cornwall.

The fascia wasn't our work, it was specified and installed by the Cornish Bakery team and their builders. But standing back once the cut letters were on, we couldn't stop noticing the texture of the surface and how beautifully the lettering sat against it. Little details like this really excite us.

A lovely discovery, and another Cornish maker doing brilliant things.

We can't quite believe it but it's been a year since SURF! opened its doors at National Maritime Museum Cornwall and what a year it's been.

100 years of wave riding in Cornwall, told across five zones, more than 100 surfboards, a 37ft board suspended overhead, and a whole bunch of incredible stories in between. We've worked with the museum on many exhibitions as manufacture and install partners, but SURF! was our first full exhibition design commission for them, a real step up, and one we'll never forget being part of.

Huge thanks again to curator Dr Sam Bleakley whose passion for surf culture runs through every corner of it, and to A-Side for the brilliant visual identity that ties it all together.

The reviews have been wonderful, the visitors keep coming, and there's still plenty of time to see it. SURF! runs at the NMMC until January 2027. If you haven't been yet, now's the time. πŸ„πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ 🌊 πŸ€™

What a spot to spend a few install days. Sign scheme complete at Harbour Light, the St Austell Brewery pub right on Paignton harbour. βš“οΈ

β€” The logo is beautifully drawn, a fishing net and floats, so this was sign written by hand direct to the wall at height.
β€” The locator letters alongside are laser cut and sprayed, and they look great against the old, wonky pub walls.
β€” More hand sign writing around the building for wayfinding, straight onto the surface for that warm feel.
β€” Inside, a wayfinding panel and decorative cut vinyl on the glass doors.
β€” Outside, frosted vinyl runs across the balcony in a wave shape, a great way to offer patrons privacy without losing the view.

This whole scheme feels really pared back, warm, and looks as good close up as it does from across the harbour. We genuinely loved working on it.

Wishing the team at Harbour Light a brilliant season ahead. We'll be down for a sundowner soon. πŸ’™πŸΈβ˜€οΈ

Meet Sophie πŸ‘‹

Sophie's our Finance Admin, chasing timesheets, keeping the accounts in order, and being roped into all sorts of odd jobs, including the occasional hunt for a missing part.

She didn't start out in the office though, which is part of what makes her so good at the role she does now. She began on reception, then moved to manage production. It means Sophie has a proper understanding of how things actually get made around here, and that shows in the way she works with the rest of the team.

β€˜Sophie just gets it. From the off she’s proved herself invaluable. Nothing is too much trouble, no spreadsheet too complicated, no birthday cake bake too involved. She's a star, and she's Marcie's favourite team member.’ β€” Karen, MD

A few Qs:

Favourite bit of the job? Snuggles with Marcie 🐢, and watching the more unusual projects come together, particularly anything heading off to the National Maritime Museum.

Perfect day? Sunshine, water, and a bit of exploring.

Favourite season? Spring. Weather is better and the days getting longer. The flowers are amazing especially tulips everywhere, which are my favourite. Oh and Easter chocolate of course!

First album you ever bought? Now 44. Iconic right!
