Beach Road Bakehouse
Fantastic food and welcome as always when we visited with Maple on Wednesday.

Certainly an asset to St Bees!
I loved the After-eight brownie, it lasted all of five minutes!

Unfortunately we were so hungry we failed to take any pictures of our food 🤭😩 so here is one of Maple outside in the wind between hailstones.

If you have a neurodivergent child — or a child struggling emotionally with school — I would be so grateful if you could take 5 minutes to complete a short research survey I’m running.

Alongside running Holidays in Cumbria, I’m also a secondary school teacher. Over the past few years I’ve seen more and more children quietly falling through the gaps — not because they lack ability, but because the current system simply isn’t working for them.

I’m developing a new model to support these young people, and I want it to be shaped by real parents — not assumptions.

If this applies to you, your voice genuinely matters.

🐾 Lake District adventures with Maple 🐾

A recent day out really showed just how different the valleys can be. We left the Derwentwater valley — cold but with no snow — and headed over to Rydal, where it was sunnier, snow at lower levels, and very icy underfoot.

Our walk took us to Rydal Cave, and Maple the puppy did amazingly well. She even managed to get her feet wet in the water at the cave… brrr! 🥶💦 Brave girl.

You never quite know what you’re going to get in the Lake District, but that unpredictability is all part of the charm. And whatever the weather throws at you, it’s lovely knowing there’s somewhere welcoming to return to — Old Bank at St Bees offers the perfect home away from home to end the day. 🏡✨

🐾 Maple’s first proper winter adventure! 🐾

We’ve seen Derwentwater frozen before… but this was a first for Maple 💛
At four months old, she bravely attempted her very own Bambi-on-ice impression 🦌🧊 — lots of leg wobbling, zero dignity, maximum cuteness.

We took her on a trip to Keswick, which is such a great place to visit and less than an hour from the Old Bank at St Bees. Easy drive, beautiful scenery, and incredibly dog-friendly — perfect even in the cold ❄️🐶

Warmed up afterwards at The Wainwright— brilliant dog-friendly pub and a top-tier fish finger sandwich 😋🐟

Frozen lakes, slippery paws, and one very proud (and slightly confused) puppy 🐕💙

First trip to the beach!! We weren't sure about the waves and we all got a bit wet but the cakes and scones from Beach Road Bakehouse made up for it, plus an afternoon snooze in front of the Christmassy fire!!
