Victorian restoration...

This is the North Porch to Worcester Cathedral, originally built in 1386 in the Decorated Gothic style, and restored in the C19th by Sir George Gilbert Scott. Between 1857 and 1874, many of the statues surrounding the portal, which feature Christ flanked by the Apostles holding objects which identify them, were recarved or restored in a much paler stone that it was felt was more likely to weather better than the medieval Red Highley Sandstone from South Shropshire used originally, and certainly over 150 years later it seems as crisp as ever...
