Paul Messenger, the King of Loudspeakers, passed away peacefully this morning in Herne Bay. He lives on in all of us who loved him. Reflecting back, I recall a moment from 20 years ago, as a newcomer in the audio world after my first showcase at the London Hi-Fi Show. I received a call from Paul Messenger: “You shouldn’t show that you are anxious when a famous person like me calls you!” That advice really struck a chord. It wasn’t arrogance, but Paul being himself – genuine, confident, insightful, and an invaluable mentor in my journey through high-end audio design. His guidance was pivotal; without him, my Royal Salute Loudspeaker and the Model 1920 wouldn’t have reached their full potential. His advice was precious, surpassing even that of industry giants like Billy Woodman and Stuart Tyler.
Visits to Paul and Pam’s house were always filled with fun, joy and Music, creating a magical atmosphere for my young daughter. Having Paul as my guest of honor at the Royal Festival Hall was a moment I cherish deeply. In the presence of legends like Andrew Lloyd Webber, Paul was my steadfast support, especially during tough times. His wisdom and humor transformed challenging situations into fond memories.
Remembering Paul brings back vivid, cherished times we shared. He was more than a friend; he was a beacon of joy, insight, and unwavering support for everyone fortunate enough to know him. +
