Close call at Little Harford! Just to reassure everyone, we had a potentially very serious fire nearby yesterday afternoon, but thankfully we’re all safe and the fire was brought under control.

It started at Metford Corner and spread rapidly through the fields towards Little Harford and the campsite. It was incredibly scary to watch, but the seven fire engines that attended were absolutely amazing and worked so quickly to contain it.

A huge thank you to James Sanford for helping direct the crews, and to Nathan Gillard for working tirelessly in the field and arranging for Mortimers’ slurry spreader to bring much-needed water. Thankfully, the nearby fire hydrant also made a huge difference.

The fire reached the campsite, but the firefighters managed to stop it — and, amazingly, Chris’s tent even survived! 🥹

A special thank you to the Crediton fire crew, who stayed until 2am monitoring the situation and making sure everything remained safe. We’re so incredibly grateful to all the firefighters and everyone who helped. It really showed what a wonderful community we have when everyone pulls together. ❤️
