Everyone has that one friend or colleague who is so honest it hurts!

I remember receiving feedback on my own home years ago:

“Your lounge looks like a retirement home.”

But we made some changes, updated the room, and the house sold.

The reality is that when we’ve spent years and often thousands of pounds improving our homes, we expect buyers to love them as much as we do. Unfortunately, buyers see things differently.

Here are some common reasons a property struggles to sell:

Poor photography

Did the agent rush through taking photos? Were the pictures taken on a gloomy winter day? First impressions count.

Cluttered rooms

Buyers need to imagine themselves living there. Too much furniture, personal items, or clutter can make rooms feel smaller.

Dated décor

Wallpaper, bold colours and older styles can distract buyers. You may love it, but buyers are often calculating the cost of changing it.

A weak property description

Many listings are just cut-and-paste descriptions. Does your listing highlight the features, benefits, lifestyle and unique selling points of your home?
