BASC Central

23/10/2026

Last week the BASC Central team worked with Nottinghamshire Police Force, for a hands on training day at Thoresby Estate.
We offered advice on fi****ms legislation, the differences between legal and illegal deer stalking and poaching, all with the aim to support officers responding to offences in our rural communities.
Below is an article about the day ⬇️

Sam Phillips, Regional Officer for the Central Region speaking to Andrew at Brailsford Ploughing Match, earlier this week.

"Everything you've just said there is evidence."

Andrew Churchman, member of a small syndicate in Derbyshire, explains why his shoot matters to him. It brings young people into the countryside, gets friends and family out together and feeds songbirds as well as gamebirds throughout the winter.

If shooting matters to you, Defra needs to hear why that's the case. Use the link to send your own experience as evidence of the benefits of gamebird release and shooting.

Brailsford Ploughing Match 2026 🚜

Thank you to everyone who came to say hello at Brailsford Match yesterday.
It was great to catch up with lots of local game keepers, pest controllers, farmers and shooters.
Discussions about the transition onto steel shot, certificate renewals and how to respond the Defra`s call for evidence, kept the Central team busy all day.
We also met lots of primary school children from the surrounding area who had lots of wildlife species knowledge and ask us some great questions.........We also won first prize for best small trade stand 🏆

Have your say on the future of game shooting in England before 1 November.

On the same day BASC secured a second High Court victory against Natural England, with the judge refusing permission to appeal, awarding BASC full costs and ordering the ruling take immediate effect, Defra announced a call for evidence on the impacts of gamebird rearing, release and shooting.

"We know that game shooting has a positive impact on the environment and we have the research to back that up. However, we are up against a relentless campaign by those who want to see shooting shut down," says BASC's Conor O'Gorman.

A call for evidence on every aspect of game shooting in England has launched and your input is crucial, urges BASC's Conor O’Gorman.
