As you know we like dress codes here at the Farm So this week to watch the Burghley Livestream It will be mustard corduroys for the chaps ....Ladies, it's Fairfax and Favour knee boots, a Schoffel waistcoat ,and some sunglasses perched on the top your head

You know that feeling when you have just poured the final concrete floor screed leaving it to cure and set overnight . And then wake up in the morning to find cat prints running over it .........

and we don't even have a cat ?

So apparently all you need is a 370 horsepower tractor , pulling a Horsch Joker Cultivator and operated by your Godson Freddie, to do something in a day that would have taken me a week ! Called in the big guns to help with a speedy preperation and drilling of a new Lucerne crop now the rain has finally arrived

After an enforced break from Hog Roasting over the summer period ,we are back with a bang at the Burghley Fine Foods Festival over this Bank Holiday Weekend . We are now limbering up for the Autumn / Christmas Season of markets to come . Last day to catch us is tomorrow ( Monday ) . Serving 10.30am to 3 pm in the Stable Courtyard ....Its good to be back !

This weekend is the annual Bulwick Horticultural Show in the Church . So I thought I would knock up a little fruit cake to enter in the" Gentlemans Baking Challenge Class " I would like to point out I had absolutely NO help whatsoever of any kind ,from Natalia our supremely talented Cakemaker and Confectionist here at the Farm............. because that would be cheating wouldn't it.

Very happy Farmers today, as we are having the first meaningful rain in over 3 months. Despite the shop getting everso slightly flooded this morning , we don't care !!

An update from my occasional series " So where has all the ******** water gone ! "
I can report that the running leak, I watch every week, from our Farmers Market Stall in Stamford High Street , is still pouring 24/7 and has been for the last 6 months.... quite an achievement.
As the leak sits outside the Card Factory Shop ,I thought it was only appropriate to buy it a Happy Anniversary Card today to show we all care.

So is this Lucerne field the greenest field in Northamptonshire at the moment? ( apart from anyone who is irrigating Salads or Potatoes ) This photo was taken at the exact spot we showed you baling our second cut on 17th July.
Lucerne has a 2 to 3 metre deep root , allowing it to be extremely drought tolerant (some plants have been measured with roots up to 15 meters deep !) However, my crop is now under stress and beginning to flower and so it won't be yeilding a 3rd cut this year, we need to preserve its root energy for next season.
Pictures of any greener fields near you, wherever you are, would be greatfully received ............so I can let my cows take a look at them , as a fond memory!

The only thing green and growing on our Farm at the moment is Filamentous Algae, in the cows drinking troughs. Not harmful to the cows, but can taint the water. It needs 3 things to thrive 1 Bright sunlight 2 Warmth and 3 Nutrients (dropped into the water by the cows ) So it looks like Sarah will have to get into her swimming costume and scrub the insides of the tank to try to stop it growing ( The footage of this operation will no doubt be made available to subscribers of her Only Fans channel later in the week )
