So turns out building a polytunnel is harder than you think šŸ˜‚ especially when it literally goes from sun, to rain, to HAIL on a June day. But Pete and Rosie have got the base frame and main hoops up… and we are so excited to see this part of the garden coming together. Having a polytunnel is going to revolutionise how much we can grow, and extend our season.

The first thing that’s going in this once it’s up are all the tomatoes that are outgrowing the greenhouse.

We are also gradually getting baby steps closer to the next part of this big garden project… all will be revealed soon 🄸

The key things:

PARKING
Our very small carpark here is strictly for guests who are dining with us that day, and as we will be open for Sunday lunch (Father’s Day no less!) it will be busy. Just ten minutes down into the village you will find two public car parks, and we believe the will also be assisting with extra parking options.

TICKETS
These must be purchased from and your ticket allows access to all 9 gardens. There will be a map with your ticket.

DOGS
No dogs are allowed in any of the gardens

Picture the scene… you’re a small business owner, so you’re most likely wearing 4 or 5 different hats already.. accountant, HR, H&S, bookings manager, front of house… and these days… social media manager too!

Be honest now, this isn’t what we signed up for is it?! But the content is what helps let people know we are here, doing our thing!

Today we hosted such a great workshop by .locations focused on tips and tricks to help us figure out how to manage this role within our already busy lives. I loved hearing from all the other businesses too, and sharing thoughts, ideas and feedback.

We are all out there just doing our thing, and trying our best. So a shoutout to the lovely people who shared our space today, go give them a follow!

My head is whirring with all the things I want to share with you all… so I’m hoping I can put my new skills to use!

We were out with the boys getting some garden jobs done today, so thought I’d grab my phone and trail Pete around and put him on the spot and get him to do a little walk and talk through some of the things that are on the menu at the moment. Plus cameo from a small child at the end…

He’s talking:

This is our new pudding on the Summer Set Lunch Menu.

One moment I’m offering half to my colleague as ā€œI can never eat a whole puddingā€ then somehow the next minute it’s all gone. Underneath the freshest strawberry sorbet, there are juicy bursts of Yorkshire strawberry, coupled with sweet but not sickly cream cheese, with a healthy smattering of crunchy crumble clusters. The edible rose from the garden just adds to the summer vibes.

FLOWERS // ORGANIC VEG

Our gardeners Rosie & Sarah have done an amazing job in not only growing enough for us to plant out, but also potted up spares so you can also grow a little bit of Homestead at home 🌱

This morning I went to pick up this amazing Facebook marketplace purchase (I have 2!) to display all the pots on outside the restaurant. This is just the beginning… we will be adding more very soon!

And the second display? Well that will be harvested vegetables and flowers ready to buy if you don’t fancy doing to green fingered element 🫜

Payment can be made inside the restaurant when we are open Weds - Sun. We will keep a few boxes for your purchases, but it’s worth bringing your own containers if planning on buying a few.

We are excited to share the produce with you ✨

Stop looking at other peoples grass! They say comparison is the thief of joy, and it’s SO true. Never before has there been so much shared about everything and anything, and often the things we share are the good bits, and less of the bad bits. As a business, it’s a balance - no one wants to hear you complaining about the money worries, the sleepless nights, the tired feet, the missing social life…. But then if all we share are the highlights, then that might look like it’s all roses!!

So remember, focus on your stuff, not what others are doing. Today has been a classic challenge day - the highs?? The fact that it’s a Wednesday, and we had every single table booked, upstairs and downstairs. Our team have been absolute bloody troopers, working non stop in the face of a long day. We are so grateful for everyone who supports us. The low points? The delivery driver crashing into our shed, the fact that chefs and FOH have barely sat down for a break before the evening shift, I have got an inbox fuller than the washing basket, and the kids had to watch tv while I went to work to make sure we were cleaned down from lunch in time for dinner šŸ˜…

So please know it’s never straightforward. We are all just doing our best. So focus on the things and the people that matter āœŒšŸ»
