Just one month to go until Whitby welcomes some huge names for its four-day literature festival! 📚🌟

Whitby is preparing to roll out the welcome mat for famous authors, television stars, musicians and broadcasters as Whitby Lit Fest returns from 19–22 November 2026!

With 57 events planned across four days, this year’s festival is bringing an impressive line-up of household names to the Yorkshire Coast.

Among those heading to Whitby are:

Hugh Bonneville – Star of Downton Abbey and Paddington.
Si King – One half of the much-loved Hairy Bikers.
John Boyne – Bestselling author of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas.
Ann Cleeves – Creator of the hugely popular Vera and Shetland novels.
Joanne Harris – Internationally acclaimed author of Chocolat.
Corinne Bailey Rae – Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter.

Also appearing are Mark Billingham, Elly Griffiths, Greta Scacchi, Louise Minchin, Dr Sian Williams, Peter Oborne and many more!

Events will take place across several Whitby venues, with everything from author interviews and crime fiction to poetry, history, live performances and family activities.

🍋 Whitby is getting its very own Lemon Bun Day this Saturday! 😋💛

One of Whitby’s most iconic sweet treats is getting a celebration of its own this weekend, as the town prepares to host its first-ever Whitby Lemon Bun Day on Saturday 24 October!

Organised by the famous Botham’s of Whitby, with help from Flash Arts Company CIC, the event will celebrate the much-loved Whitby Lemon Bun while encouraging locals and visitors to explore the town’s wonderful independent shops.

Taking place as part of the Flowergate & Beyond project, the celebrations will centre around Whitby’s Artisan Quarter, including Flowergate, Skinner Street, Brunswick Street and Golden Lion Bank.

And there are plenty of tasty reasons to get involved! 🍋

🎟️ Free Lemon Bun tombola: Head to Botham’s Skinner Street shop between 10am and 1pm for a free lucky dip, with zesty prizes and one very special golden ticket up for grabs!

🐰 Lemon Bunny Trail: Follow the trail around the Artisan Quarter for the chance to win one of three fabulous hampers filled with goodies from local independent businesses.

🍦🖤 Black ice cream is returning to Whitby for Goth Weekend! 🦇

Just when you thought Whitby couldn’t get any more gothic, one of the town’s most unusual Halloween treats is making a spooky comeback!

Trillo’s of Whitby has confirmed that its famous black whippy ice cream will be returning just in time for Whitby Goth Weekend and Halloween! 🖤🍦

The striking jet-black soft serve has become a seasonal favourite, offering visitors a wonderfully unusual twist on traditional seaside ice cream.

Available from Monday 26 October until Sunday 1 November, the limited-edition treat will be served from Trillo’s kiosk on Whitby’s Pier, perfectly timed for the thousands of visitors expected in town for the Halloween celebrations.

With Whitby Goth Weekend bringing its usual mix of elaborate costumes, gothic fashion and alternative culture to the seaside town, even the ice cream is getting dressed up for the occasion!

Then and now: How Whitby Brewery has transformed over the years. 🍺

What a difference a few years can make! These then-and-now photos show how much Whitby Brewery has changed, transforming a converted barn into one of Whitby’s most distinctive places to enjoy a locally brewed pint.

Established in 2013, Whitby Brewery set out with a simple mission: to bring traditional, independent craft brewing back to the seaside town.

Located at Abbey Farm on East Cliff, just a stone’s throw from the historic Whitby Abbey, the brewery has become a popular destination for locals and visitors alike.

Today, its b**r garden offers spectacular views of the Abbey, making it a wonderful spot to enjoy a freshly brewed pint, particularly on a sunny afternoon. And it’s not just the b**r that draws people in, with delicious freshly made pizzas adding to the experience! 🍕🍻

You can also find the brewery’s range of real ales in pubs across Whitby and the surrounding villages, as well as at festivals throughout the region.

While the building has undergone quite a transformation since those early days, one thing has remained the same: its commitment to producing great Yorkshire b**r!

When I created Whitby Yard, I knew I wanted it to be about more than simply beautiful products.

Creativity has always been a big part of my life. From studying interior design, to working within the creative industry and eventually building a brand of my own, I’ve always loved the thought and story behind good design.

But Whitby Yard has also given me the opportunity to champion things I genuinely care about.

Sustainability has always been important to us, from thinking carefully about the products we choose to working with brilliant businesses such as Sails and Canvas, who transform old sailcloth into something beautiful and give it a completely new life.

I’m incredibly proud of the identity we’ve created around Whitby Yard.

A little bit of New England inspiration, a lot of love for Whitby, a passion for creativity and a belief that the things we buy can have both beauty and meaning.

It has always been a very personal brand to me, and one I’m incredibly proud to have created.
