Looking for a bit of relief from the heat 🔥🌳💦😎?

August in the Lakes is hard to beat – how about:
- a morning lake swim - walk to Millerground or drive to High Dam, gorgeous settings
- a cafe lunch minutes away in Windermere - my favourite is Homeground
- explore the nearby fells using one of circular walk collection

Gorgeous evening walk to nearby School Knott. This is the view coming down with Lake Windermere below and the Langdales in the distance.
It's about a 50 minute circular walk from Running Hare and my favourite after we've just arrived ⛰️🌸🌊😎🌳

Running Hare bookings are filling up nicely for spring and early summer – thank you! There are two weeks available in April and one in May.

🏡 Dates available: 10 April, 17 April, 29 May with choice of Friday–Friday, long weekend (Fri–Mon) or mid-week (Mon–Fri).

Spring is one of the loveliest times to visit Windermere: longer days, lambs in the fields, and the fells turning green again – even lake swimming for the hardy 😉

One of the nicest things about staying at Running Hare in Windermere is how close by everything is.
From the cottage, it’s just a few minutes’ walk to Windermere cafés, shops, pubs and restaurants — easy to pop out without any planning, even on a winter day.
Guests love our bespoke collection of circular walks straight from the door. You’ll enjoy gorgeous views and a real sense of being in the Lake District, without too much physical effort — perfect for shorter winter days!
And when you’re ready to come back, the cottage is comfortable and warm, with a well-equipped kitchen, self-controlled central heating, and a wood-burning stove for cozy evenings in with games or the smart TV.
January to March tends to be a quieter time in Windermere, well suited to slower days, mooching about locally and time to unwind.
