You may be aware that the weather is a little warm at the moment!
If you’re joining us tomorrow for the Exmoor Explorer, please do read the following to ensure your day is successful :
Bring plenty of water!
We will have water on our aid stations, but please come prepared with enough water to see you around the route. A bladder pack is a great option!
Hydrate before, during and after your ride. Adding electrolytes to water will also help your sodium / potassium levels.
Start earlier!
Registration is open 08:00 - 10:00, and you can ride from 09:00 - 10:00 Please consider aiming to ride out early in the permitted time slot.
Slip, slap, slop!
Don't be shy with the suncream! Please make sure you have enough protection from the sun by applying a generous amount!
Dress for the heat!
Wear loose fitting, lightweight, breathable clothing rather than heavy cotton that will trap the heat and hold sweat. Light colours help too! Sunglasses are a good idea to protect your eyes from UV rays along with a cap.
Pacing!
Be sensible and please remember this is not a race! Heat makes you work harder before you even notice it - take it steady! Enjoy the glorious landscape on the Exmoor Hills!
Listen to your body. If you start to feel unwell, dizzy or light-headed, slow down, stop if needed and alert the nearest marshal. Our medical team from Apex Medical & Rescue will also be on hand throughout the event should anyone need assistance. Please ensure you have the emergency phone number saved to your phone.
Keep cool!
Try and stay cool before you start your ride - sit in the shade, drink plenty of water and use a cool towel around your neck and / or wrists. Make sure you have a cool drink before you head out.
We have organised plenty of events of varying disciplines in similar weather and they've all been really fun and enjoyable. It's set to be a glorious day if we all respect the heat and act responsibly!
Really Wild Coffee will have some great iced coffee options and Country Bumpkins have cold cans and lots of packaged ice creams (magnums etc).
Route setting started early yesterday morning and the pre event set up is going well!
We'll see those of you who are camping later on today, and everyone else bright and breezy in the morning!
