The Stables is a delightful 18th century Grade II Listed cottage located in the quiet village of Dean.

This unspoiled corner of the northern Lake District enjoys beautiful sunsets, peaceful valleys and beautiful landscapes.

2021 has been an interesting year in lots of ways.

We decided to renovate the bathroom. We had surprises when the floor and walls came down including an old bottle and really old newspapers. Well all done and feedback is that it is much improved, especially once I got the persistent leak on the shower screen sorted.

Bookings have continued on-going and many people returned time and time again to enjoy the local walking and other activities.
Mountains in the area have been well used with the summit hit by many. Cycling events and days by the lake have also been enjoyed.

The Royal Yew is the place to go when everything opened up. A new chef and menu means it’s better than ever. It is also well used (www.royalyew.co.uk – 01946 861342)
Interestingly at Bassenthwaite they have installed at the station the set of Death on the Midnight Express. It’s opened as a Café and is great for breakfasts, afternoon tea or special nights. You need to book but worth a trip sitting on a train for bacon and eggs or vegetarian options. (www.bassenthwaitelakestation.com – 017687 76599)

In 2022 we intend to continue to improve facilities. The garden area will be made more comfortable for those long sunny days after long walks.

We wish you a Happy 2022. Hopefully The Lakes will always call you back and you will consider using the cottage as a home from home once again.

Well it has been a busy few weeks here at The Stables.

We have had our first guests arrive this year and everything has gone perfectly and it's so nice to see people around. We just need some lovely weather now.

Bookings have gone a little mad and we are now fully booked until the 15th October 2021 which is amazing so thank you everyone for your support.

If you do fancy a mid/late Autumn break away in The Lakes (it's an amazing time of year up here) please contact us as we have the following weeks available for bookings.

15th to 22nd October 2021.
22nd to 29th October 2021
5th to 12th November 2021.

Well, by early 2020 we were in a position to open up The Stables with no drips and a new roof was in place. Christmas went well and New Year and as ever in February my regular holidaymakers had enjoyed their stay.

Then 23rd March happened. The holidaymakers headed home and well life changed.

Lockdown seemed endless and we all baked, cleaned our houses. sorted our gardens and decorated our homes. Little would we realise that we would do it again in lockdown 2 then again after Christmas in lockdown 3.

It's been a long start to 2021. So what do you do but find a new project. We decided The Stables would be our focus so we started in the bathroom and have gone through the whole place.

The bathroom has been fully refurbished and modernised. The new bath is large with sizeable shower facility.

A new toilet and vanity usit is added with a new flooring. I think this is a big improvement.

The lounge has been improved with new flooring and soft furnishings. it is important to keep the property looking like a cottage but a few extra home comforts make the difference.

So it's now all ready, warm and comfortable. We all need a place to go to and I hope you will enjoy your stay all the more and the change of scenery.

The mountains are still there to enjoy. The Royal Yew will soon be open for food and at present does good take aways at the weekend. The Lakes will look as beautiful as ever.

Happy New Year from all of us at The Stables in Dean, Cumbria. We hope you had a great Christmas and are looking forward to a great 2020.

We have also completed a few refurbishment jobs over the last few weeks and we hope are regular clients like the new changes.

The Stables is a delightful 18th century Grade II Listed cottage located in the quiet village of Dean. This unspoilt corner of the northern Lake District enjoys beautiful sunsets, peaceful valleys and beautiful landscapes. The 'secret' garden at The Stables is a lovely secluded spot to relax and enjoy a morning coffee or perhaps an evening meal whilst enjoying the abundant wildlife. The cottage has been sympathetically refurbished in a characterful farmhouse style with exposed beams and stonework. The sitting room is set around a feature cast iron fireplace and the log burner, and the musically inclined can enjoy some music on the piano in the music room. The Royal Yew, a dog friendly pub just a few minutes down the road, serves delicious country pub fayre prepared by their creative chefs.

The pleasant market town of Cockermouth is five miles away and offers many independent, shops antique shops, and plenty to see. Why not visit the old-fashioned ironmongers, 'J.B. Banks and Son', which houses a small museum? There is also an abundance of restaurants, pubs and cafes. Keswick is also nearby and is known as 'The Outdoor capital of the Lake District'. However, it has even more to offer with shops catering for everyone, several bespoke jewellers, art galleries, contemporary gift shops, and interesting museums.

Visit Britain has given The Stables a 4 Star Gold Award, in addition to a Welcome Pet Friendly award.
