This Love Lamb Week, we’re celebrating one of Britain’s oldest and most influential sheep breeds – the Southdown!
Originating from the South Downs of Sussex and Kent, the Southdown has been part of the British countryside for hundreds of years. Developed into a recognised breed in the 18th century, it went on to influence other famous breeds including the Suffolk and Hampshire Down.
But there’s much more to a Southdown than its history. ❤️
Southdowns are renowned for their docile nature, easy lambing, early maturity and ability to produce high-quality, tender lamb. As a terminal sire, Southdown rams are valued for producing lambs that grow and finish efficiently, making them a fantastic choice for commercial flocks.
So this Love Lamb Week, why not celebrate the farmers, shepherds and sheep behind the lamb on our plates – and raise a little love for the wonderful Southdown too! 🐑🌱❤️
