We are so lucky, just three miles from Castle Howard - lots of our visitors 🚲 or 🥾 there, via Dogh Welburn for brunch and The Crown & Cushion on the way back to the campsite for fabulous pub food and a drink or two …

June has arrived and brings with it thousands of red poppies.

The poppies, which can be seen across fields to the south of the House, have returned thanks to cultivation, not using herbicides, and recent hot, dry weather.

We are actively reverting the fields to a species rich parkland landscape, and they will be cut for hay following the nesting season. Over the next few years, we will be lightly grazing the fields with cattle.

The caravan teaches you things.

That a cup of tea tastes better when you’ve walked to get the milk. That silence isn’t something to fill. That you don’t actually need forty-seven TV channels — you just thought you did.

There’s a reason people keep going back. It’s not the luxury. It’s the lack of it.

And that’s the whole point. ☕

Great to have some of the archaeological enthusiasts for this dig staying with us; the young girls’ faces were a picture as they described their day’s finds. So smiley 😊
