Probably the most central hotel in York, certainly the one with most personality! Next to York Minster and all the best things to do in York!

Galtres Lodge is an independently owned hotel in the very centre of York. Small yet perfectly formed, the building was originally two Georgian townhouses, which have been combined to make this charming 12-bedroom hotel and restaurant. Step out of the doors onto the busy shopping street of Low Petergate, and turn the corner to see the magnificent York Minster, situated immediately behind the hotel.

Chris has a bit of a thing for exposed beams. 🔨

Whenever he’s refurbishing one of our rooms, he’s always looking for ways to bring a little more of the building’s character back to life.

If there’s an original beam hiding behind the plaster, chances are Chris will find it.

🌳 There’s still a few weeks to discover Tommy Treebark’s Wild Adventure Trail! 🐾

Pick up a leaflet from the Visitor Information Centre (now at 28 Back Swinegate, just around the corner from us), then head out on the trail and see how many of the creatures you can spot.

Record your findings and you can pick up a great free prize when you’re finished! 🎁

Some of the trail creatures are in obvious places and really easy to find, while others take a little more searching. 👀

We went on a hunt for some of the more off-the-beaten-track creatures and found this little duck hiding away! 🦆

Our breakfast menu in Forest has plenty to choose from, from waffles and kippers to a classic full Yorkshire breakfast, but if poached eggs on toast are more your thing, we’re here for that too. 👌

And if you’re staying with us overnight, breakfast is included. So wake up, take your pick from the menu and let us take care of the rest.

Our Chopped Chicken Salad brings together diced chicken breast, crunchy salad, creamy avocado and a hit of wasabi mayo, finished with an olive oil dressing.

York is a dream for anyone who enjoys exploring on foot.

There's something special about wandering the cobbles, finding the city's hidden snickleways and taking in the views from the York City Walls.

It's one of our favourite ways to spend an afternoon in the city. ✨

Original fireplaces, cosy corners, soft blankets, and all the little details Rebecca and Chris have chosen themselves.
