Galtres Lodge is an independently owned hotel in the very centre of York. Small yet perfectly formed, the building was originally two Georgian townhouses, which have been combined to make this charming 12-bedroom hotel and restaurant. Step out of the doors onto the busy shopping street of Low Petergate, and turn the corner to see the magnificent York Minster, situated immediately behind the hotel.

When decorating, Chris & Rebecca always try to hold onto the features that showcase the building’s historic character, including the beautiful fireplace, which sits at the heart of this room.

We've recently said goodbye to two of our lovely team members who've both been a huge part of our little hotel family 💕

Demii joined us in housekeeping and blossomed into an absolute superstar in the restaurant and on reception, and Gyem started with us as a kitchen porter and worked his way up to become a full-time chef.

This team portrait was created by Demii as a leaving gift for Gyem and we think it sums up our team perfectly: creative, kind and thoughtful, right to the very end 🤍

We're so proud of our little corner of York ✨

What started with an idea for a name, has become so much more.

Galtres Lodge is named after the Royal Forest of Galtres. Established by the Norman kings and stretching to over 100,000 acres, before disappearing in the 17th century. Chris & Rebecca wanted to bring a little of that history back to life, so named the hotel Galtres Lodge and the restaurant Forest.

The Forest of Galtres might be long gone, but we're doing our bit to keep the story of York's history alive. 🌳

Good food doesn't need to be complicated. ❤️

We want every dish to feel like a proper, satisfying meal and we're always so happy when guests tell us we've nailed the portion sizes.

The menu changes seasonally, keeping the balance between introducing new dishes we know you'll love, and keeping the firm favourites too! 🥪

Rebecca was walking through the city a few days ago and happened to come across the consecration of three new bishops at York Minster.

At the time, she didn’t realise what she was seeing, but snapped a photo and mentioned it to David, who always seems to know what’s going on!

Being so close to the York Minster, we can hear the bells and see it from our top-floor bedrooms but moments like this are a lovely reminder to stop and take it all in.
