In December 2019 I visited Mt. Huangshan the "Yellow Mountain". Though I initially only had two days on the mountain, I eventually was able to extend to four. This was lucky as I desperately wanted to catch the first snow of the year, but it was late. Instead, for much of the visit, I spent my time wandering in heavy fog around the top of the mountain and its countless, countless stairs. But, eventually, perseverance paid off and I was treated to not only snow on the mountain, but an amazing sunrise and sunset. It is a very, very special place, and while I was focused mostly on photos - I did take a little video footage which I've turned into this video.

All footage was taken on a Sony A7RIII using a variety of Sony lenses.

I had no idea what to expect from the country of Georgia. I had seen specials about the remote village of Ushguli, heard rumors of the beauty of Svaneti, but beyond that? It was a mystery. Friends who visited returned enchanted. But, I also had all sorts of misconceptions - was it dangerous? Was it corrupt? Was it flat or mountainous? Were the roads really as rough, the villages truly as remote, and the driver's as bad as everyone said?

Over 10 days, I rented a 4x4 capable vehicle with a broken bumper, a remote key that had a dead battery, and an old Subaru that had somehow found its way from New York to the country of Georgia. And yet, it was reliable, and took me down back roads and into Georgia's high country.

I quickly learned that the country was incredibly safe. The locals, wonderfully hospitable. The food spectacular, and the nature...well...the nature you can see for yourself.

Sure, things were a bit chaotic and the rules of the road a bit liberal. But, even when paused to fly my drone, with the trunk door up, locals would stop and ask if I was OK or needed help.

The food....the food was incredible.

And autumn as we made our way deep into the Svaneti region and to Ushguli and Adishi? Magnificent.

This footage was shot on a mixture of my Mavic Air, Sony A7R III, and iPhone. Edited in Davinci Resolve.

The country of Oman was a fantastic surprise. While I only had just under a week to drive the north eastern loop, I was stunned by how friendly and welcoming people were. The nature was magnificent and the weather wonderful despite it being the first week of January. My focus was mostly on photography during the trip BUT, I did have a tiny bit of footage which I've turned into this quick 60 second intro to Oman.

One of the more unique parts of my visit to Vietnam was the boat tour through the Trang An nature area. The three hour boat tour is powered by female rowers who row using their feet. This includes navigating the 9 flooded caves that cut underneath the soaring karst spires. This video is the last 1/3 of one of them. Amazing fun and a delightful experience. The area is also where Kong Skull Island was filmed.

Just a quick note to folks doing a rental. Make sure you aggressively photograph everything on pickup. That means tires and rims, windshield wipers, windows, undercarriage, bumper, tail lights - you name it. For our Iceland rental, having photographed the tires in advance caught tire damage we missed during the initial once-over. That would have cost us $300 (more than the full cost of the rental over the 7 days) if we didn't have visual proof.

In the past we've seen everything from missing mudflaps to windshield wipers - you name it. Every time I do the rental there's the temptation to rush or I learn I need to cover even more in the photos. Make sure you do it.

Forgive the bad audio - wind was gusting and the mic cover wasn’t doing its job - but better the real update from the raw landscape than a re-record in the hostel, right!?

It’s always a special moment when the sky’s blue hue kisses a flowing river seemingly transferring its turquoise hues. Quick windless update from this afternoon as we cut back toward Höfn.

A brush with disaster? Yup! But once again the road looked out for us and instead we ended up smiling and relaxing in a 50s Diner.
