Khitanoba 2014, Original footage of horse racing.

Till today the festival still takes place in Gometsari valley where multiple villages gather at Khitana shrine to sacrifice animals(usually sheep) make traditional beer, horse racings and celebrate the festival.

Khitana is usually the first festival in the end of July, which is followed by other festivals as every village have their unique festival for their own shrine. There is currently around 40 villages in Tusheti where the last festival (saint Mariam) happens in Omalo at 28th of August.

This photo was taken back in 2013/2014 when there was ongoing restoration of Dartlo village. Group of local workers with mostly young man were going everyday from Omalo to Dartlo with pickup truck for the daily work to be done. Photo was taken at the highest point of the road which is at Ghele meadow right between Omalo and Dartlo villages.
